Happy 45th Anniversary, Susan Seaforth Hayes!
Congratulations to Susan Seaforth Hayes, who becomes the first "Days" actor in history to celebrate 45 years on the show! Susan made her "Days" debut on December 11, 1968 and 14 months later, in February 1970, met the love of her life, Bill Hayes (Doug). Bill & Susan celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary in October, and Doug & Julie's love has lasted even longer. I didn't realize it had been that long.

I don't think DAYS celebrates actor anniversaries but I hope they might say something.

It's nice that she'll at least be on for a little while around this time, for the Christmas episodes.

My mother only watched DAYS for a short time in 70s, but she still remembers Julie and sometimes asks if she's still on the show. That's the type of power the soap stars of that era had.

I hope they do something to mark the occasion on screen, too, though I doubt they will. Congratulations to SSH, one of my favorite soap stars. Though she's been given nothing worthy of her talents for at least half of these 45 years, her talent (and charisma) is undeniable to anyone who was privileged to see her in the '70s. Curtailing Julie's romantic life by introducing teenage Hope and repositioning Doug & Julie as nagging parents remains one of the stupidest moves DAYS has ever made.

By her own admission, the demise of SSH's career at DAYS came down to her being "a bitch" to the producers and writers. Bill Bell brought her in from the cold on Y&R and had intended for her to be Stephanie Forrester on B&B. Ultimately, I think things have worked out as they should.

Not a scene exactly but the first Julie story I remember was when she was trying to regain custody of her son after giving him up for adoption. This would have been shortly after Susan took over the role. I have earlier memories of Days but don't remember the previous actresses who played Julie at all. I remember that Julie represented herself in the custody case and her Uncle Mickey represented Scott Banning. I particularly remember her determination not to allow Susan Martin to raise her son (this was after she learned Susan was in love with Scott) and her marrying Scott partly to spite Susan.

The earliest I remember of Julie was her 1990 return the pairing of her and Victor and Dr. Chip Larkin. I also remember a story kicking off with her and Bill Horton when Ed Mallory returned in 1992, I think it was a tie in to Kate's coming the following year I don't know, but had to do with Jack and Jenn moving into Bill's house.

I was really young and don't remember a lot of specific scenes, but I have impressions of Julie and Doug sneaking around, and Addie dying. I remember a lot of pained and longing looks on Susan's part -- nobody in the history of soaps has suffered more beautifully than she, IMO. And I remember Doug singing "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World" to her in Doug's Place.

    • I've never found him as bad as some. I think he's always shined in scenes with Vernon, who should be his father. I also think he has great chemistry with Kat and Dani which I hope they tap into more over time. Dani/Martin feel like such a fun and believable Auntie/Nephew relationship.
    • I'm fighting for my life on another board for my husband Brandon and I'll do it here too lmao
    • I don't expect Lois to be the same person she was 25 years ago, but she's definitely lost a lot of what made Lois unique.  It's clear the show doesn't know how to write for her, and the sole purpose of Lois is to hide this Gio secret.  It's a shame she doesn't interact with more of the canvas.  It's a waste of Rena's talents. I like Brook Kerr most of the time.  She can be hit or miss.  I totally get what you are saying about her line readings too.  I honestly think the character really suffers being stuck in the Curtis pairing.  She's much better than Tanisha Harper's Jordan lol.
    • Friday and yesterday's episode is what daytime television should be. The other shows airing could take a page from yesterday's show.  I loved the rage, hurt and anger Nicole unleashed on Ted.  Daphnee should be up for an Emmy nom for these scenes.  It broke my heart to see how Dana had locked Eva out.  I do feel sorry for Eva.    I am still bumfuzzled as to why Leslie/Dana went to the DuPree's and asked them to accept Kat UNLESS Eva is really Kat's twin (and really Nicole and Ted's daughter that maybe they though they lost or an embryo Dana/Leslie stole??) I loved how Anita and Vernon both shot her down.    Ohhh and let me just say Friday and yesterday was the MOST fire I have seen Martin have since the show started.  Maybe Brandon Clayborn is coming into his own with the role finally.
    • You've been seeing him all along. You just didn't know it was him, I guess.

    • Where to for Dana? She's pissed off the Duprees (most of the cast), alienated her daughter and will she be welcomed by the Have Nots at the diner? Maybe she can befriend Ashley and Derek and liven up their story.
    • Melissa Ordway announced she was moved to recurring back in November but is still credited with the contract cast members.
    • I think of Evan as a smarmy bast*rd. Maybe you'll like that description. You certainly have him pegged correctly since he is just a soldier following "Admiral" Iris's marching orders.
