Y&R: Jeanne Cooper has passed away

I hope it's ok to make a separate topic on this.

Wasn't sure how I would have to say these words so I opt for simplicity at least to begin...

My mother passed away this morning just a short time ago, peaceful with my sister by her side, in her sleep. I was going to visit this afternoon, thought I had time. Reminder to self - time is a precious thing. I too am at peace however. I said my goodbyes several times over during the last few weeks. I'll go one last time now for a gentle kiss a final farewell for this lifetime. She has been a blaze her entire life, that beacon, that boxer I spoke of earlier. She went the full twelve rounds and by unanimous decision... won! And while her light finally gave into the wind that gives flight to all our journeys, there will always be a glimmer left behind by what she stood for. I will speak about that more in coming days, months I suppose. I will certainly dedicate what remains of my life to continue her purpose of honesty, equality, humility, empathy and love. So many of you have said your prayers for her and right now, today, I can say the best way to honor her is to inhabit your lives with those things she stood for. I would ask that closer friends respectfully give us some time to find our family's path in this transition, and please limit calls, emails and the rest for a couple of days. As always, your outpouring of love here on this page, is not only welcomed to continue but truly appreciated and comforting. I asked my sister what time she passed exactly, and she told me (not to important for public record) but I was working out and just happened to pick out a song for my final moments on the treadmill - "Everlasting Light" by the Black Keys. Oh what a wonder it all is... what a magnificence!

Let us also remember her wide array of guest appearances in 50s and 60s primetime television. A station like MeTV could make an afternoon of showing just her appearances on various westerns.

The Queen, the Duchess, the fabulous epitome of the quintessential actress Jeanne Cooper, the entire entertainment industry will miss your grace and presence in your work and in your humanity to the world. No more suffering. You got your wings today. Fly. Soar. You will be missed and loved. Y&R will NEVER EVER be the same without you. The void will be permanent. Condolences to the family at this most difficult time.

I'm the same AMS - that scene was pretty much my Y&R gateway. It was everything. I knew what Y&R was in that moment.

I hope they have a clip of her singing "I'm Gonna Live Till I Die."

Y&R better acknowledge Jeanne Cooper's passing by having Kay pass away as well. And they better do it right.

Agree.

Corbin Bernsen: "I can say the best way to honor her is to inhabit your lives with those things she stood for." Yes. THIS.

Beautifully put, Carl. And All My Shadows, that is how I want to remember Katherine Chancellor -- Rex putting that glorious diamond necklace on his Queen. I remember vividly Jeanne saying that she used *her* own fabulous jewels to adorn Kay. The jewels she bought herself on the back of her years of work on Y&R!

I'm not sure what kind of tribute JFP can drum up for a woman she didn't know all that long and whose legacy she probably never really followed, but I hope she gets help from old-timers over at Y&R who can fill her in and help craft a fitting tribute to this wonderful dame. Ask Jess Walton for help if they get stuck -- she'll know.

No Tucker please, they need to pretend that character never existed.

I never felt the mother/son connection between him and Kay so he can stay gone. And please recast Grandma Mac. Uusually I object to recasts a soap funeral but she sucked and Mac needs to stay on canvas awhile.

I thought JFP has known JC for years via Corbin?

Josh Griffith will probably write something very basic and boring (as he always does).

But I'm just grateful Maria Arena Bell, Sheeffer, and Hamner aren't the ones in charge of this. I can only imagine the fuckery they'd inflict.

Carl, I was just thinking about that the other day! I remember an eppy from the late 70's when Suzanne Somethingorother was trying to gaslight Kaye, and in a drugged stupor Kaye sang "I'm Gonna Live Til I Die". :)

I agree. I never understood why soaps (or dramas in general) don't use the clips of previous actors when a role is recast when needed. It's still part of the character's history regardless the fact that the actors changed.

I heard it's because you have to pay the actor to use their image in those clips

I don't have high hopes but I do, at least, believe that Griffith will understand the gravity of this and try to make it good.

Unfortunately, this probably also ends Jill's involvement with the show as well. If they barely have her on when Kay was there, I doubt we will ever see her back now.
