Prospect Park Sues ABC Over ‘One Life To Live’ & ‘All My Children’ Licensing Agreement

ABC already breached the agreement with the Tomas/Alcazar thing. GH wrote Tomas into an arc where he may end up being the Gh character of Lorenzo Alcazar. Sounds like a great story, HOWEVER, Tomas was not one of the 7 characters loaned to GH. So GH cannot create an arc that puts Tomas at the center of it, no matter how long it lasted on screen.

If you say thats fine, then whats to stop GH taking Reva Shayne from GL and using that role in story without permission. P&G wouldnt sit & take that. They would Sue & win. You cant take someone else's intellectual property and use it without written consent.

Depends on what they are asking in damages. The court/mediator may find ABC at faulyt but not award PP all the damages being asked for.

Was wondering the same thing, I would believe as long as the other characters mentioned are tied to the 7 loaned, it would be ok. But I feel that is PP's other gripe the the 7 were supposed to be short term & GH writing John just leaving Liam & staying in PC was OCC

ABC has not been above board in any of their actions when it comes to soaps within the last 10 years... The so-called victim has victimized plenty -- audience and employees combined -- for years. That's all I'll say about this.

Here's another question: do you believe that another regime at GH might have honored better the terms of the arrangement between ABC and PP (provided, those terms have, in fact, been breached), or do you believe they would have behaved the same as Frank and Ron?

I take that as them asking for a minimum of $25 million along with other court costs and just dues, so I'd say yes to your question.

I don't think another regime would have brought over 3 characters from another show and heavily feature them at the detriment of the show itself. I could see them bringing in Roger as a new character altogether, but that's about it.

But I think what interests me the most (outside of the ad thing...they may have ABCd dead to rights), I'm interested to see the damages PP sustained for 2 shows that have not aired.

JMO, I feel that once GH started getting good ratings & Praise, they "Forgot" they only could use 7 OLTLers in story & just started mentioning everyone in Llanview. I mean Felix took Hair styling from Roxy. Etc Etc. I feel they believed no one would ever call them on breach of contract cause Gh was a success & OLTL was "Living on" when it really wasnt.

Obviously, no.

I didn't disagree with the merit of that idea. What I disagree with is the way they have allegedly shortchanged the actual OLTL revival, and the way in which they have continued to implicitly assert ownership since - with the worshipful encouragement of some of the soap "press". And if it's true they infringed upon their agreement that's a whole other thing.

The GH writers have confirmed they were just waiting for PP to disappear completely to bring on MA, JVD, ES, KDP, FL etc. more often. There was talk of them casting a contract Jack Manning. They were going all in, and when PP returned they completely failed to accept it.

Fortunately, because Frank and Ron appeared to care not a whit about AMC (aside from Stuart -- and really, you can't say his having an art exhibit to be OOC), I don't think that particular show has anything to worry about. As for OLTL: at best, there might be apparent and unavoidable errors in continuity. But it isn't as if that has never happened before in television. (Am I right, DALLAS/KNOTS LANDING?)

Oh I agree. Im saying the ratings improved & Cartini thoiught it was all OLTL then just started incorporating Llanview everywhere by mentioning that radom Gh people knew people in Llanview.

    • He definitely had it going on back in the day
    • I have long given up on logic and Mayor Laura Collins! It makes about as much sense as Luke being elected mayor over Lee Baldwin in the 80’s, maybe even less sense. She committed manslaughter as a teenager, was involved with a mobster (I guess credit for them taking Smith down), had a shoot out in her home and killed another mobster in self defense, thought she bludgeoned her stepfather to death, then was catatonic for years. Her current husband had a twin that was a serial killer, had his own breakdown that threatened lives, and most recently hid his brother for treatment and that allowed Ryan to escape and kill again. And had hook killer Esme as a houseguest and is raising her child. I don’t care for Sonny anymore but their relationship is just another thing that involves suspension of belief to watch the show. I wish someone on this show would remind these adults that they used to pull way worse stuff than this! I would love a scene where Laura is sitting with Lulu and tells her while she is not happy this is nothing compared to what she got up to when she was young, and maybe even some understanding that she would also do stupid stuff if she believed in the cause. Olivia reminding Dante that he was wild as a teen and this isn’t that. Felicia reminding Anna that they were being shot at when pretty close to Emma’s age. These characterizations are just so basic. Have some fun with the actual history of the show. That kind of wink would mean more to me than just name dropping some random fact.
    • There are no dumb questions here, we've all known each other long enough to fill in information without shaming each other.  We want you to be happy @carolineg.  Your POV as one of the few women here is vital. So, please, I hope you never feel as if any question, idea, or opinion is ever silly or stupid.  Your daily reminders about the realities of manicure and menstrual management has become a part of the personality of this thread. As for Hank, while I'm confident there's a plan in place.  It is frustrating that they announce these casting so far in advance that it is tough as an audience and wait it out until the thing happens.  I'm happy they didn't blow it the second Mike was in town, a week after meeting Liam. So, it is a slow burn.
    • I think his full name is Chadwick.  I remember, back when the previous actor was playing him, someone called him Chadwick a couple of times.  It may have been Stefano.
    • I didn't like those two sleeping together, but I suuure liked seeing BF in them. Wiggle and all. Just sad about the waxing of the chest.   Same.
    • It’s strange. I wonder if the writers at that time had worked with him somewhere else and had a relationship? That time is murky AF to find info on. Rachel Ames in effect left the show at one point in the early 80’s and she is credited like she was there until JFP. Tristan Rogers also took various contract breaks that were not short, and websites also credit him one long stint from 1981-1992. So many people come and go in short succession in 1982-part of 1983. I know they lost a lot of viewers when Genie left, but the show somehow survived yearly at number one through like sheer force of will.
    • In that way, at least we were fortunate.  The Daniel Pilon/Ron Raines decisions...not so much.
    • Letting Brennan put it in yet again while smirking over his shoulder... any day now! She's got him just where she wants him! I do think ol' Jack will be dead by February at the absolute latest. They have set him up as a counter-heavy to Sidwell, forcing poor Joss to work his next scheme or threatening to have her sent down for treason. Once he croaks I still deeply fear we will be subject to Valentin and Carly, partners in crime to lovers, possibly out to find out 'who killed Jack'. Anna was at her best keeping Sonny at arm's length and often somewhat cold, which she only really did (for better or worse) off and on during Carlivati's tenure. But Finola gradually got too emotional over Sonny, Jason, etc. and was allowed to do that onscreen too much long ago. Mulcahey brought some of that steel back, though Finola still managed to choke or quietly sob through some of that material as Anna found her way there lol. She's a brilliant actress and she did a good job with that stuff in '24, but now we're back to the same old and it humiliates the character whether she knows it or not.
