I don't care so much about which soap is better as I do about some outrage over questioning the brilliance of Brad Bell. This is a man who spent years trying to get people to root for Ridge to nail a girl he raised as his biological daughter for a good portion of her life.

Not to mention two of is ex wives have now banged his "Father" and brother, one of which had two kids with him.

Eh...I've already given up all hope with Y&R being the show it use to be. The once class soap is just a generic soap opera. I wouldn't care if they cancelled Y&R.

Really Steve Burton on Y&R??

Brad has a number of very skilled, longtime soap writers handling duties for him on the writing side. His own work as a headwriter, to me, is shockingly poor. I always think you can tell his work when those hideous, hideous "issue" stories start. Any headwriter who tells viewers that suicide is noble and that Alzheimer's makes you a psycho is not someone I can praise.

Storm's suicide was hardly a story glorifying suicide. It was about a deeply troubled, guilt-ridden man who shot his sister, and from his deep guilt and remorse took his own life so she could live. The show wasn't saying suicide is noble. That was my take anyway.

laugh.png Me neither...

Except to say that Brad Bell should have handed the HW reins over to someone else years ago

It's a soap. The days of Irna Phillips' saints and sinners are long gone. If you're looking for a morality play, you won't find it on daytime.

Oh Jill I gotta give her credit the woman knows how to give the right answers. Quite the politician isn't she? She's helming the number 1 soap and she still has ego.

If you have a mentally ill man who is somehow redeemed by killing himself to give his sister a reason to live, that's saying suicide is noble. The story was also rushed and littered with pretentious nonsense like Katie's underwater dreams where he was wearing Joker makeup.

It's actually kind of funny she's the only one that gets called out for it when just about every writer has done it including Bill Bell himself.

What I LOVE about JFP is that she knows what is going on. She couldn't care LESS! Go Jill!

I don't think anyone said Brad Bell was "brilliant", nor were they expressing "outrage" over anyone questioning it. I stated he had been a very successful head writer and EP. The current ratings seem to back this up. He's had his ups and down, but there must be something about his storytelling that keeps people watching. It's the number one soap worldwide and a consistent number two in the States. Jill said she doesn't think it's possible to combine the two roles successfully. I pointed out that it is and has been.

Maybe she should care more given all the shows she's been fired from. She only has the EP position at Y&R because she's a friend of Steve Kent's.

If you think Brad as a headwriter has been a reason for the ratings. I'd say it's down more to other people, and he mostly has a title.

Plus, B&B is only a half hour show so I imagine the work load would be significantly less.
