GH: Discussion for the Month of March

Considering, I'm wondering if that's the reason I kind of look down on ABC Daytime.

NBC was good enough to lease out Wally Kurth for John Ingle's big goodbye and if I'm not mistaken, he's appeared since then. I know he's only on recurring with DAYS, but it's nice that they gave their blessing, knowing that the daytime audience would appreciate it.

Yet ABC Daytime would not "lease" Jerry ver Dorn, who meant so much to GL viewers as Ross Marler (a roll he'd played since before I was born and his Ross was ALWAYS one of my favorites) for ONE day in 2009, for ONE episode, so he could appear to Ed (Ross's best friend) and Blake (Ross's only true love since about 1992).

NBC Daytime acted in a much more classy manner. John Ingle had appeared on DAYS as Mickey for a little while before ABC realized the error of their ways and brought him back and apparently felt the need to allow Wally Kurth to appear on GH as Ned to honor both John Ingle and his GH character, Edward Quartermaine.

I just wish ABC Daytime had had the class to honor GL in the same way and lend out JvD (who WANTED to appear on GL one last time) for one or two days.

What does this have to do with GH?

Uh... Yeah! Faces of the Heart! Despite my long-abiding loyalty to GL, I do remember when I was a teenager, wishing that GL had a more upbeat theme like GH.

(Of course, now, I LOVE HOL and curse CBS for ever replacing it.)

DAYS didn't have to lease Wally out for John Ingle's farewell. He's on recurring, he can do as he chooses.

DAYS screwed GH over back in 2004 when Anna Lee died. GH asked to use John Ingle, who was on contract at DAYS at the time, for the 3 episodes that would deal with the death of Lila Quartermaine. DAYS refused to let Ingle do it.

Also, verDorn does in fact appear in one GL's final episodes. He's sailing his boat across the lake during the scenes at filmed at verDorn's local country club.

Maybe at that point, but I'm thinking ABC viewers should be giving NBC a little credit for realizing that Wally Kurth/Ned would be missed and even if they had any thought of stopping him, they couldn't, and gave their public blessing because GH is a fellow daytime show and they're all just hanging in there by the skin of their teeth (DAYS just recently got renewed for a year and GH recently got renewed through the 50th, with no real long-term guarantees for either show).

At this point (three years after GL was cancelled), yes, I do think many of these shows should be throwing their lots in with each other. Maybe not CBS and NBC, since Y&R and B&B tend to overlap with DAYS in some markets, but ABC and NBC SHOULD be throwing their lots in with each other, considering NBC's only soap is generally done in most markets by the time GH starts.

But again he's not on contract with DAYS so they couldn't have stopped him anyway. Credit for what? They really didn't do anything.

And in some markets DAYS and GH overlap as well.

Like I said instead of just hanging in their they need to refuel the competition and use it for better stories for each soap. Them playing nice with each other still doesn't do anything for the shows.

It shows goodwill to the audience, which is really the only reason any of these shows are left.

DAYS went on the record (SOD, Wally said DAYS had no problem with him reprising his role as Ned for those couple of days) saying they didn't mind and that they were glad Wally's days didn't overlap with the two shows, because they loved John Ingle as well, and they knew it would mean a lot to the audience if he appeared. I think they deserve a little credit for that, considering ABC refused to allow JVD and B&B wouldn't allow Rick Hearst (who they weren't using, despite him being under contract to B&B at the time) to appear during GL's finale week, despite what it might mean to long-term viewers to see GL's Alan-Michael appear at his own father's funeral.

You really think the general audience give a damn if the shows play nice with each other?

You seem to forget back in 2004 when DAYS refused to let John Ingle appear in the three GH episodes that dealt with the death of Lila Quartermaine, after the real life passing of Anna Lee.

Did GH ask for him?

Did GH ask for him?

They did. They still planned on keeping Jed Allan as Edward, but they wanted John to do the three episode farewell to Anna.

That would have been really nice. Sigh.

Yeah. It would have been.

But, they never should have replaced him to begin with. I know John wasn't the original Edward. But, he fit in the role perfectly. Jed Allan SUCKED.

I always liked the jazz version of the GL opening

GH should have new a version of Autumn breeze with a updated Ambulance going to the hospital that all it needs in my book.

The characters don't need to be displayed they where never shown on DOOL.

But GH already had a "new" Edward Quartermaine for that and the daytime community wasn't in as dire straits as it was at that time.

They may not have been able to predict the future, but they should have known the value of a John Ingle when they had it before they actually "needed" him.

Jed Allan did the best he could (even drew upon personal circumstances for it) and ABC Daytime had no one to blame but themselves for that fiasco.

Never should have replaced JI in the first place. Never should have put themselves in the position that would have made them replace him in that situation. I blame ABC Daytime for that. They didn't appreciate what they had and DAYS did appreciate what ABCD had and offered him a contract.
