They could always backtrack the gun shot to earlier than it actually was, too, making "5 years later" as 2013 fit correctly.

The current year (on the show) will be 2013. I'm almost certain that will be the case and it won't be the future. They may be vague on the year and never mention it, but I'm sure it's set in the present day.

It's a 5 year jump, that's all it is

Yep.

Yep.

How great would it be if it WAS the future, and then the writers could have fun making up not-yet-created technology!! One of the characters could be a ROBOT!!! OMG!!! I bet Agnes Nixon is behind this and it's brilliant--I'm sure she's always wanted to do sci fi!!!!

I think 5 years from the gun shot. But as for actual years and real dates, etc--I wouldn't over-think it, you'll go crazy. Just go with it.

I think it's going to be a more nebulous time jump, they will avoid specifics about date (after establishing that it's been 5 years since J.R. fired the gun) and the passage of time will be downplayed quite soon. I don't think they want the audience thinking that they're watching the year 2016 or whatever. Eventually, we'll only be reminded when they decide to dig into that gap and come up with a new story.

Yep. AMC will handle it the same way other shows have. Desperate Housewives, One Tree Hill, Ghost Whisperer, Lost, Alias, etc.. have all done time jumps that way.

Thanks guys, you all make sense!

They'll probably just say that '''5 years later'' is 2013. Yeah, that's totally inaccurate, but I think it's the only way. They wouldn't be able to make any current pop culture references, ect. if it's set in the future.

I am praying Time Jumps are not going to be the new SORAS...

Please, I beg of you. I don't need to see a video demonstration.
