AMC: The Prospect Park Era (old production thread)

Thorston's comment makes me a little worried about the writing. I've already been unsure about the team and his growing pains would have to be about either the writing or the newbies acting. Hopefully it's the newbies because that'll be easier to fix/deal with than bad story. We'll see.

"Growing pains" suggests to me it's the new actors, many of whom haven't any soap experience. As we know, the soap actor is like no other animal! Ditto soap productions and their unique needs. I'll trot out the old cliche again that if Agnes is involved, the writing can't be THAT bad. Everyone has been hugely positive about the stories so far!

Agnes is too old to realistically be doing much of anything. And everybody is going to say it's great, nobody is trying to make a bad show it just happens. It's not until the episodes air that you truly know if something is good or not. Even filming it they might think it's really fantastic, but as they see the stories develop on screen they might discover they aren't very good. Hopefully the writing is great for both shows though, because I imagine it'll be hard with this filming schedule to replace writers and change course.

Various reactions to things that have been posted today ...

The AMC Instagram "Keep calm and trust Agnes" thing ... LOL! But I'm getting a little tired of Agnes Nixon being the main person trotted out for reassurance.

Hope Peter Cortlandt will keep his shirt on more than it is off. This show is not Baywatch. And I really do not want nudity ... It's like Torchwood vs Doctor Who; Torchwood was trying to be the more so-called "adult" spinoff with sex scenes, violence, and bad language, but everyone knows Doctor Who remained the better quality show. Adult and edgy does not equal nudity and swearing. What makes a show edgy is subject matter, whether its subject matter is compelling and true to the emotions or problems of life. Torchwood only truly became edgy and adult in its third season, when it did "Children of Earth," especially the chilling line with the government minister advocating using school tests to identify the lowest 10% of children who could be sacrificed. No sex, no swearing, in that line, but the cold hard truth of society.

Thorsten Kaye's growing pains comment to TV Guide has me a little worried. Did something happen? Great that TV Guide is covering the return of the shows though!

The pictures out so far are reassuring me that at least it is not going to be a Peapack-type situation.

I liked Natalie Hall as Colby, who is the only Colby I got to see. Colby and Asher, Colby and Damon, Colby and Liza, Colby and Marissa, Colby and JR, she was compelling and convincing in all her scenes.

As long as Agnes is there I do feel reassured. I know she's not head writing, but at least her opinion is being listened to for the first time in several years.

I never got into Doctor Who, but I agree that Children of Earth was the best thing Torchwood ever did. I also have mixed feeling about the nudity and swearing to make the shows edgier. That said, I do enjoy cable shows like Justified and The Americans but I'm watching them for the characters and stories more so than their hipness.

As far as Colby, I liked Natalie Hall the best out of the 3 because she was the best actor.

That's how I took it too. I don't think Thorston Kaye was commenting on the writing.

I agree that Agnes is never going to be truly head-writing any show again, but who are we to say just 'how old and frail' she is and we can't say how much she's writing because we don't know. I do think the actors probably toss more credit her way than they should, but I still find it hilarious that the two head-writers for AMC aren't getting one iota of attention lol. Not that I'm complaining. I think Marlene could work for AMC but we'll see.

Of the three Colby's, Natalie Hall was the least worst. She's got her Hallmark movie(s).

Shallow observation: Heather's dress bottom is pretty darn see-through..whoa!

That's so funny, I was just thinking, damn we sure can see a lot of Ms. Roop!

Agnes is 85. Ray MacDonnell is also 85. 85 doesnt mean old & feeble anymore. Look at Betty White. She is 91 and has two TV shows going and two books. People are living well into their mid to late 90's now. So maybe we shouldnt be so ageist around here.

As for the nudity & language. If the actors are open to it (Nudity) and they arent just being done to be done (Nudity & profanity) and it makes sense for the situation, Im all good with it

  • Agnes Nixon has a sharp mind so all this ageism/age discrimination here with posters on this board is simply negligent and unfounded. I support Agnes entirely 100%. I am so glad that she is a part of her creations. Go Agnes!
  • AMC has NOT even aired its first episode yet, however there are already perceptions about the show based on non-existent things. TK was merely saying that the hitches and glitches that are being experienced are going to work themselves out just fine. Everything new in life takes time. Time will take care of everything. I am confident about this show and its success.
  • I am looking forward to watching and learning all the new things of the citizens of Pine Valley and some cast will return in time and the continuing generations in the families of Pine Valley.

Well said! I mean, I get where others ARE coming from with Agnes (and like I said, she will probably never head-write again full time, her own words), but like I said, we just can't assume we know anything she's doing. She could have written a bible, she could have just tossed out ideas. Who knows? I absolutely credit her with getting some of the vets back, IMHO, and it also helps the show films right in a lot of their backyards.

For some reason I just can't wait to know the most about Francesca James' character. I'm REALLY looking forward to her. Didn't she bolt way back when because the show expanded to an hour?

I thought Thorsten was refering to the back end stuff when he said that. That is at least what seems readily apparent to me, like how TOLN still doesn't have a full on Web site up, and how fans are getting a lot of info from actor twitters rather than from PP or TOLN. It seemed like he was saying it would take them a while to get the promotion right because right now a lot of things are still vague.

Speaking of, I noticed in one of their recent statments TOLN said something about 7 year olds not being interesting and that is why they SORASed AJ and Miranda (I assume Kathy, Spike and Jenny too if they are not trapped in Tad's attic). But does that mean all the other kids who wouldn't be at least 13 after 5 years of SORAS will not be seen? That would suck because I really wanted to see the David/Cara baby.

Lastly, this is my first ever post so hi everyone!
