I must admit though that besides the ultra-corny Amanda Beall the dialogue is quite good on Y&R these days, even with the new hires.

I haven't noticed any difference.

David Levinson replaced David Cherrill back in 2011...Interesting that they are swapping again.

No. DAYS went with 4 SWs after Cherrill left. Levinson didn't come in until Marlene and Darrell started.

Actually, the number of writers does affect the budget if it is bloated. Brad, Jack, Kay, Patrick and Michael at the top is way too much for the show, and costly.

What's the structure there? Do Michael and Jack write all the breakdowns, while Kay edits? And all of them, including Mulcahey, help with stories and layouts?

Brad and Michael start with initial thrust (although Jack/Kay/Patrick all can have a say in general story direction). Brad and Jack, in particular, will discuss story in long-term. The term "outline" in relation to B&B is not the same as on other shows - a writer is lucky if they get 4 pages per script. Kay, at least in the past, edits, but Brad always wants the final pass on a script. Patrick, to my understanding, offers broad strokes, but may still even do a dialogue pass for important (Emmy/DGA/WGA,etc) scripts.

OLTL & AMC are gonna film 10 episodes a week & they have 6 writers. I think as long as they can write itll be good.

New director at Y&R: Hashim Abed, worked on HH and JFP brought him to Y&R to do lighting consulting and now directing.

Thanks! :)

The list of FOJ's keep on growing. And it does looks like Dean Lamont is gone. I'm afraid they might phase out Sally McDonald next. :(

The days where the bells had control at y and r are over. I am hearing the Maria bell fans were upset at first but Since jill took over everything is so much better, more accessible, Jill is always there for the actors and they ate appreciating it. Maria was always missing in action, horrible with communication and she hadn't met with her directing or writing teams very much.

How many of the old directors has JFP kept?

none besides Sally McDonald (so far) and Conal O'Brian who has a large AW, AMC background and by far is no Bell soap director.

Noel Maxam and Mike Denney have been MIA for far too long to be still part of the team.

Let's see. In JFP's initial press interview about changes she planned to make, she talked about taking a scalpel to Y&R not a hatchet. Yeah, right. This woman will say anything then do the exact opposite.

Jill will pare down the writing staff too. She worked with 9 or 10 writers at GH. You can be sure that more writers will go. I'm guessing next on the list is Paula Cwikly who's an "older" woman. We know Jill likes the young babes. Michael Conforti will get an expanded role. I think we'll see one or two writers from HH get scriptwriting gigs.

It's disheartening. :(

I'd like to think Griffith will fight for Paula since she helped him out during the strike.

Pretty sure choosing the writers is the HW's job, not the EP's...

It depends on who the HW and EPs are. Generally, both get to choose. The only EP I know who doesn't mess with the writing staff is Lisa De Cazotte.
