HOLIDAY MIRACLE: Prospect Park Back On Track To Revive AMC and OLTL

  • Member

WTF!!!!!

EXCLUSIVE: Here is a great holiday gift for soap fans: I’ve learned that Prospect Park has revived its plan to continue cancelled ABC daytime dramas All My Children and One Life To Live online. I hear the company behind USA hit Royal Pains has inked deals with SAG-AFTRA and DGA for the soaps’ production, eyed to begin in the first quarter of 2013.

At times a bit repetitive with that same old spot in the park, but AMC's outdoor sequences in Los Angeles were very easy on the eyes.

Adam/Erica, the tornado, Annie's descent into madness, Babe's death and the subsequent return of David Hayward, Petey (as you mention) were all great elements that really livened up the show in the fall of 2008. And no, Petey never really got an exit I don't think. The show just seemed refreshed and re-energized compared to the boring, uninspired drivel B&E chruned out.

How quickly it can come undone though.

Sadly, AMC's last consistent batch of good writing that lasted more than a year was Lorraine ffrom 1995-late 1997. The show, rarely, missed a beat during that time period.

Oh I was gonna say about 3-4 months later, Marlena's review (whatever you think of her critiques) had completely turned around to how awful it was. And I agreed....

I disagree with Carl about the end of Broderick's 90s run, but yeah. We've had good ALMOST years (like when Agnes returned to do the coming out story before Passanante's stuff took over as well as others, even with McTavish IMHO) but not longer. Sigh. But I think that's true of a lot of soaps post mid 90s

My hope is if they can film outside, that they do it as well as the British soaps do. I have been watching british soaps via YouTube for a couple of years now and their filming techniques appear far superior to our soaps while also dealing with budget constraints like American soaps have.

Although by UK tv standards, the budgets are fairly high. Remember Corrie and Eastenders in particular routinely are at the top of the tv ranks.

Daytime Emmys are now based on calendar year. The Emmys in 2009 would be based on the work from Jan. 1st 2008 to December 31st 2008, etc.

OK which makes even more sense why Nixon and Brown/Esensten were there. They prob submitted scripts like Jesse/Angie reunion.

Yeah, that was also my thought.

@I_Am_Maylin_Now The amount of work Agnes is doing... she is a super consultant at this point!

Interesting!

ETA: Someone asked how Agnes Nixon can be a super consultant at 85. My response is if Betty White still has zip, why can't Agnes?

As everyone who knows her keeps saying, she's still as sharp as ever, even if her body is more frail. And it seems at this time of her life she has less other stuff to occupy her time... (which sounds harsh, but you know what I mean)

I believe Eastenders also has permanent sets built as their outdoors storefronts. It's on a lot.

As does Corrie--you used to be able to tour the old ones.

The UK soaps, though faced with some cuts over the years, are still among the most expensive and high budgeted British television productions. It's not really an apples to apples comparison. Corrie and EastEnders are also still the cornerstone of ITV1 and BBC One's respective schedules, though clearly not as socially embedded as they once were.

I have been twitting FOZ:

@allmc2008

@TheMightyFoz This was written by the great Doug Maraland http://www.datalounge.com/cgi-bin/iowa/ajax.html?t=9674619#page:showThread,9674619 …

@TheMightyFoz Irna Phillips believed they were much more than a gimmic and made them what they are today.

Also

Foz@TheMightyFoz

@allmc2008 yes, and they have always been the mold breaker. from radio to tv then tv to cable and now tv to the future...history!

Ain't that the truth! Soaps are definitely the most prominent thing in my life right now and I don't think I will ever be at their level......

I'd put you on the list before me, but I definitely agree about saynotoursoap. I'd add Paul Raven as well.

allmc2008, I think you're enthusiasm and posts are wonderful, but you may not wanna send this guy too many random soap clips, as great as they are... just saying... *ducks*

A random thought. One reason Pratt's debut may have seemed so exciting also was, apparently, Frons basically left him alone. He was a fairly expensive "buy" for AMC, Frons adored and trusted him, and gave him a producer credit. So, unlike B/E and others, he probably had (for good and ultimately bad) a lot more control of his own material.

Ha it's fine, and cute--I don't wanna sound like a spoilsport--but you don't want him to join in your Soap Fans are Crazy thread soon... (and at this point, while I think it would be in his best interest to educate himself about soaps--I don't think he has much creative say).

So what does he do then?
