So who was she when she was going by Connie as a kid? Was she Kate? Sooo confusing.

Here's how I see it: she was Connie (her real name) until the rape. Then, she became Kate, although she was still conscious of her true roots as Connie. But in order to deal with her painful memories of rape and unwanted pregnancy, she created an alter-ego whom she named after her given name.

I call it "Running out of Ideas!"

It would have been easier to reveal Kate had had a baby before leaving for college and leave the DID out of it.
