How sad. The article is sort of light on details, but I hope it wasn't a long and suffering illness. Is he the first oldtime cast member of OLTL to pass away?

Doris Belack passed away last year.

Sorry to hear this. I wish he'd been able to be back on OLTL one last time. Agnes Nixon broke new ground casting actors like Lillian Hayman, Al Freeman, and Ellen Holly. Freeman was so cool and had such quiet authority. A brilliant actor.

I posted this old interview in an OLTL thread a few years ago.

Damn.

His performance in Malcolm X as Elijah Muhammed is a testament to his incredible versatility as an actor, and should be seen by everyone. I always thought he had great chemistry with Judith Light as Karen, too, but a soap was never going to go there in the 1970s (and rarely still in 2012).

He brought such dignity to his performance on OLTL (and in Malcolm X). When I think of Ed Hall, I think of quiet authority, understated emotion and absolute honesty. Soaps have seen very few characters of this ilk since Freeman left One Life.

That was nice of Judith. I was wondering if anyone from the show was going to say something given how long he was there.

I remember him from Malcolm X and other roles (never saw him on OLTL). He was a very talented underused actor.
