Well, the Bell's sat by and watched (and enabled) Latham to fire a significant portion of Y&R's old guard, and never attempted to bring most of those folks back when Latham was fired.

I really have to wonder about the control they had, and if it was for the better at this point.

The Bells have always been a very close family. While Brad and Lauralee may not have been happy with Maria's Y&R, they would never publicly say so, and would only mention it to family and close friends. Certainly they wouldn't want the Bell family to lose control of their father's legacy show, especially to Sony who only consideration seems to be the financial bottom line. I would think it would cut further to have JPF heading their family's show. It's a sad situation all around.

Wasn't Latham hired by Sony? How could the Bells have brought back Y&R's old guard if Sony and Latham were fully in charge?

Is that a bad thing? I have read that a few times here, and should we blame SONY for wanting an ROI? Is profit motive wrong? Isn't that why we all invest? They let MAB stay too long, and it may be the Bell's legacy, but in that condition, which Bell really wants to claim it? The woman would hire any damn body for no apparent reason because she certainly had no story for everyone in that morbidly obese cast. I say let's see what JFP can do because I refuse to believe she is worse than that spoiled child who is publicly crying over the loss of a toy she should not have had in the first damn place.

Latham was allegedly forced on to the show by Barbara Bloom.

I meant when Latham was fired.

Maria only came back to the show when Latham was gone, so why weren't they looking to restore Y&R to its former stature then? They sat back and did nothing and allowed Maria trust mediocre talent like Scott Hamner and Hogan Sheffer, further enabling the show to become what it has become.
