I don't understand why they portray Paul as a deadbeat dad. Isn't that kind of out of character? I always remember him being written as a real stand-up type of guy, an everyman type character who always tried his best to be good and never intentionally hurt anyone.

Didn't he rape Christine?

They sent both of his kids packing at young ages, and the show just ignores any ambiguity because it's easier to write Paul as a deadbeat. He's not a man with balls, like Sheffer's beloved Chompers, Adam, Ronan, Victor, et al.

That doesn't really mean anything, especially since I viewed the rape, or whatever it was, as a huge OOC move for Paul's character, who for DECADES was anything but deadbeat. I don't even know why they did that sh*t.

Paul gave his child to the child's grandparents and couldn't be bothered being around for the rest of his life. Ricky was yelling at him about it the other day how Paul didn't do much visiting to him or his mother.

The show claimed that was "rough sex."

Paul called it rape.

Cricket didn't but accepted his apology for it.

That's a retcon.

Ricky did live with Isabella's parents but Paul did visit him.

After everything with Isabella & getting (somewhat) back together with Cricket he felt Ricky was better off with Isabella's parents.

But he did visit Ricky regularly (unlike Aunt Jack with Keemo & Kyle).

I always thought that the reason for the rape/rough sex was to put Paul and Micheal on equal footing.

When it comes to Ricky, Paul is getting the Esther treatment.

Didn't Katherine send Kate/Cloe to a boarding school?

Yep, but what I meant was that Esther was made out to be an awful parent like Paul is.

It was to an extent.

It was also an excuse to give Doug & LLB more "challenging" material.

Unfortunately it was meaningless because LLB chose to go recurring.
