ICAM. I have no interest whatsoever in Sonny's trial or John and Johnny trying to take Sonny down. It's just a endless cycle that delivers nothing. And I could care less about Franco as the father of Sam's baby. And I'll be pissed if Matt is Lisa's killer for no reason whatsoever other than to just give worthless Spinelli airtime.

I think the issue in writing good hospital stories is the same it's been for years. With the vets gone barring Monica there is really no strong presence or lead to help carry a story there. Frankly while I don't mond Patrick or Matt I don't see either capable of carrying or driving a story. Same with Liz or Steve

They did when Robin went into the lab & it exploded, She was presumed blown up to get Jason's serum.

Unless Jason or Sonny or their cohorts are in the hospital you won't get one...I thought Scrubs (Robin Scorpio/Patrick drake) were suppose to be the anchors on the hospital side, yet it was bitchin' & moanin' by many they were boring. ... the Lisa saga played out..also their chief of staff storyline....Shirley's cancer storyline (that was boring according to many post I read although I enjoyed it)... Maya was blimp on the radar I remember her "she froze up in a crisis storyline"..... then there was the other pediatrician storyline dr Terrell who virtually vanished without explanation replaced by Maggie from Memphis....

They won't write for Monica...every now again there is a hospital board meeting....

they had a strong hospital charismatic cast IMO from the NS1 series Leo Julian, Andy Archer, Nurse Regina along with Lainey & Kelly Lee but they didn't cross them over for long & we know what happened to them they slowly disappeared one got gassed ...same thing with NS2...that was a good hospital cast too again ... Nada

bottom line....they refuse to write for them

Unless its the awesomeness of Jason/Sonny/Sam/Carly with Michael etc in the hospital... that's about it. This is what this show is about period. Elizabeth (a 15 year vet) & Steven Lars are Steve Hardy's (a founding character of the show grandchildren) supposedly they aren't good enough to handle top tier story which I don't agree with but whatever....my thing is write a good story first & foremost....

Shirley's cancer wasn't a big storyline. She was someone we had no connection to who was a friend to live and died. I didn't really care about her or her daughter.

I don't even like Liz working at the hospital. I still think she should open her own gallery.

But Steve if SR wasn't so miscast should be leading a hospital storyline and I'd bring back Tom and Tommy.

I agree I think he would have done wonders for the hospital side as well its so much they can do with him....

Re: Shirley:

I don't "need a connection" to another character or a town for a story to work for me...its just a standalone story period everyone does not have to be related or connected in a town some people just show up they use to do this quite frequently back in the day. I work with people who are not from Chicago & came soley because of a job or for chemo treatment that's "their standalone story" it works. At the beginning of GH patients were admitted to the hospital for "a hospital story" then they were discharged.... does every patient in the series Greys Anatomy have a connection to the canvas other than their dr...?

Same with the Good Wife they have clients ... they come they go that's it some stay over several eppys some its a one shot deal...

ITA except Shirley IMO was not a hospital story. She was a named actress brought on specifically to tell the audience and send the message that Liz was ok.she didn't really impact or interact in terms of story with many other folks. That's fine if your a fan of one character but it was only a hospital story because it occurred at the hospital. No diff than Jason sitting in a hospital room for weeks calling it a hospital story.Stories like the Monkey Virus storyline or the almost story of a takeover of the hospital or Monica even competing for the Chief of Staff position were or could have been hospital stories.

I certainly saw this as a hospital storyline; maybe not as good as it could have been; I didn't get that impression rather my interpretation wasn't as such as I got a lot about "Shirley the patient out of this story" yes she was sympathetic to Elizabeth's plight & since Elizabeth has no family & her best friend is dead (who use to stand tall for her even when she screwed up... except for Steven Lars) she was used as her POV ....not unusual....she bonded with Elizabeth because she was in her story.

I was glad at that time Elizabeth was being barked at & smacked down (with few exceptions e.g. Robin & Patrick & Matt) quite a bit LoL...It was during the period where her writing was just horrid so as her fan I welcomed Shirley but I can see how others would feel she was an Elizabeth ass-kisser I feel that way about quite a few characters right now...

I'm wondering what would be considered a hospital storyline? I think I asked this once before when there was a similar discussion its possible that I don't get it.

    • I remember when the whole Missy Reeves controversy started in 2012.  She tweeted support of a business that had made homophobic statements. Greg Rikaart (who was on Y&R back then) publicly called her out on it, but was willing to reach out and speak with her. Article here: https://greginhollywood.com/greg-rikaart-talks-about-his-twitter-war-with-fellow-soap-star-melissa-reeves-over-anti-gay-chick-fil-a-73139 That being said, ten years later, on DAYS, in 2022, when they had they double wedding of Leo/CraigWesley and Gwen/Xander, Jack and Jennifer came to the wedding.  At that time, Missy Reeves was only intermittently available for DAYS. Jennifer was living "in Boston" and Cady McClain and Missy were each intermittently appearing as Jennifer, on the specific occasions when the show required a Jennifer to appear. Missy wasn't on contract and she could have said no. But she chose to appear as Jennifer for the gay wedding of Greg Rikaart's character.   So... I mean... I would assume they reached a détente behind-the-scenes. Missy still has her belief system but there's that.
    • That was one of the best grandslam finals.  Alcaraz comes all the way back down 2 sets to 0, and three match points in the 3rd set, to win it in a 5th set tie-break.  And the quality of play was excellent - so many great shots.  What a battle!
    • Indeed. I may try to watch it in full sometime, but not anytime soon... Mark played Sean Baxter for a few episodes when Courtney married Andy. Burke was either on Broadway or at OLTL at that time, I suppose.
    • Well, Josh was a horndog. LOL Yep. It was one of the first really weird things Reva did with her PPD. She became obsessed with the idea that Dylan and Sam should get married. Sam was only 17, and needed her parent's permission. Reva helped them leave town so they could go to a neighboring state where Sam was old enough. Ross, Billy and Josh stopped them, then Sam went to India to try and persaude Justin. Reva followed her and didn't tell Josh she was going. While Reva was gone, Josh advertised for nannies, and Harley applied. He ended up hiring someone else. But when Reva returned, she hired Harley because (in her weird mental state) she wanted someone she could trust with the kids (because she feared Josh was trying to get rid of her and that Vanessa wanted the children.). After Reva starts treatment, she asks Harley to stay until she's stronger because she's good with the kids. At the party, Reva starts going off the rails, insulting Justin and Josh hauls her to a private dining room to ask WTF. Reva starts confronting him about the "affair" with Vanessa, and he realizes she is weird. He locks her in the dining room and frees Mindy and Van from the ladies room (where Reva has locked them in). Van starts telling him that Reva attacked her and needs help.  Reva escapes out the window of the dining room and goes back to the party, climbs onto a table and starts a striptease. Josh gets her to stop, takes her home and after filling Ed in, decides to go to the doctor the next day. Reva then takes off and spends days running around town, coming on to a guy she thinks is Billy, Billy, Hamp, Frank and Roger.  Roger takes her to his apartment and takes nude pictures of her, which he tries to blackmail Billy with. He wants the deed to the land the Towers is on in exchange for them. (Billy had been left the deed by a sweet old lady who lost her home in the 5th street fire. Roger had stolen the deed from her before she died. After Roger took those pics of Reva, she saw him hide them, and took an envelope from the hiding place. She didn't realize she'd taken the deed and not the pictures.)  Anyway, Billy and Vanessa trick Roger into burning the pictures, claim the deed and at the Towers opening reveal that Billy owns the land and therefore the Towers. That's what led to Roger and Alex's breakup and Roger and Mindy's affair. Mark Lewis was on ATWT? 1986 is not a good year, storywise. No bueno. Muy no bueno.
    • All the time they spent trying to make viewers feel sorry for Chad only for him to not even last that long. I wonder if they knew Richard Burgi was going so quickly. You're right about Josie replacing Cheryl. On paper, this should have made sense, given all the ties Josie had to the canvas, but I did prefer Cheryl. There was something very synthetic about Alexandra Wilson.  I suppose even if she did have some fans they were just so used to getting rid of people left and right, so she was more collateral damage. As you said above I do wonder what the plans were for Peggy Lazarus. I think AWHP mentioned her once telling Peter that Peggy Lazarus wasn't her real name. Maybe she would have been another Carl moll... Rebecca Hollen never did get her due in her soap roles.
    • So true...Hackney might have had a story on FC with Richard being an old lover of his, but reveals herself to be a Cartel member and blackmails Richard with something into doing her dirty work  LOL. But of course Richard had his hands full with the double trouble sisters Ms. Jones and Ms. Braxton that season.

    • Cat herself will be a stumbling block all her own as she vowed to Chad to stay away from him, thus redeeming her of her crime morally. Classic DAYS would have them gazing longingly at each other at Doug's Place or Blondie's, while Liz is serenading the room with a song aptly chosen to represent their feelings of emotional turmoil.
    • From what I just recently watched, they were setting her up to go into future stories. She was Emmy nomination worthy in the material I saw. If some viewers did not like her, the character could have been rehabilitated after that sick storyline. It feels like they destroyed a character for fun and then tossed her to the curb. Spencer had chemistry with everyone. I'm just retroactively angry on Spencer's behalf.  You're right about how Cheryl was often forgotten and pushed aside and I would take Cheryl over Josie. I think soaps need characters like Cheryl. Characters like Josie are way too common. Josie always got on my nerves.
    • CBS was back in third place in 1994/95. That was the season CBS lost NFL broadcasting rights which also cost them several established affiliates in major media markets. 1995 CBS was sold to Westinghouse and Les Moonves arrived. 1995/96 CBS was trying to be young and cool to compete with NBC and Fox, but it was an epic failure and CBS was once again in third place.
