Sharon Brown who played the character Daisy on the CBS soap opera Love of Life in 1971, and she originated the role of Chantel on the Generations from 1989 to 1990 is currently in the Broadway revival cast of Caroline or Change.  She is the rare case of an understudy who has gotten her own published reviews.  Many will recall that AMC's Tonya Pinkins originated the role in the first production.

Sharon Brown is a REVELATION as Caroline. I've never seen or even imagined a take on Caroline like this (even on various videos I've seen) - while Tonya and most actresses I've seen clips of play the role pretty angry from the jump, Sharon didn't - her Caroline was clearly frustrated but not visibly or tonally upset. In Act Two, you could see the anger start to come out and then her performance of "Lot's Wife" might have been the best thing I have ever seen on a Broadway stage.

Sharon was one of the many Effies in Dreamgirls. She can hold a note forever. Many of the Effies were interviewed by Seth Rudetsky several months ago, it’s a great watch.

Her dad is Johnny Brown who played Bookman on Good Times. Sharon did an episode herself as “Fun Girl”, a young woman with a disability who corresponds with Michael over CB radio.

Ronn Moss (B&B) recently participated in a new Italian competition show called "Star In The Star." Celebrities imitate a famous singer, the same one week after week, right down to wearing a mask, until they get eliminated/voted out and they have to unmask to reveal their identities. Ronn impersonated Paul McCartney.

Exactly! Daytime soaps, in particular, have been terrible at utilizing technology to leverage their brand and most fans make too many excuses for this. Even the shows that got cancelled 10-11 years ago were around long enough to have made use of YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.

If Ashton Kutcher could think to get on Twitter in early 2009, what's the excuse of these sophisticated @ss corporations like Sony and Procter and Gamble taking so long to figure it out? I know P&G didn't give a sh*t about their soaps but still...have some pride and pretend you care, lol.

And it's basically Eric Braden hopping on himself. These soaps are so haphazard about their engagement with viewers and potential viewers.

The saddest part is that even if a lapsed viewer tunes in, you won’t see Victor or Nikki actually doing anything. For all his faults, I think it’s smart how Ron keeps the vets working. I mean who ever expected to see a 96 year old top the monthly episode rankings?

There is a way to use the older characters in meaningful and impactful ways while building the younger generations. That’s one of the many things Josh Griffith doesn’t understand.

Sometimes Ron does it well. Other times, more frequently in the last ten years, he just loads them up with fluff to fill space. I do think what he's done with Doug is the best of his nature, and he certainly understands it more than latter-day Griffith.

Victor dominated the show for years, to its detriment as  time passed. That also didn't seem to do much to stop a steady slide in ratings. The character also became incredibly one-dimensional and therefore difficult to use in a more supporting role. The main problem is many of the younger characters who could have taken some of Victor's role on the canvas were too weak to do so.

    • Just thinking how the Ruth/Leticia guest spot really cemented how Days had changed. Stunt casting with a campy/comedy character in a 'wacky' storyline was something that a few years previously would have been completely out of place on Days (and most other soaps for that matter).
    • I am interested to see how they handle Leslie/Dana down the road. If she continues in this path, it would be unrealistic to have her around. Like other shows have done this with a 'villian' character and ended up with people looking stupid putting up with someone they detest. Another thought-could they be building up to a murder story? Maybe Les/Dan will be left in a coma and we will have a whodunit with several characters as suspect. It would also be a chance to redeem her I wonder how long the show will go w/o resorting to soap cliche stories-twins,switched at birth, murder mystery, long lost child etc
    • Yeah, Martin really did make me laugh when him and Smitty jumped up to drag Leslie out. I am interested in seeing how this fallout will impact his storyline as well. Especially since he is so protective regarding his family/family's image. I am interested in seeing how he will interact with Eva for the time being, they did have a warmer interaction earlier on once they met. But he seems to have doubts about her possibly being Ted's right now. I wonder how long it might take for him to come around with her. I could see the younger generation warming up to her quicker than the older ones. Though of course I think there will be anger/tension for a while regarding the reveal and her role in it. Perhaps Naomi/Chelsea will ease up on Eva first then eventually Martin/Kat might down the line. I really do love Nicole. I'm glad that DD is playing her. She really is the heart of the family and also agree the show. She is so easy to root for and I'm looking forward to seeing how things work out for her. I am enjoying the development of most of the characters on this show. I enjoy most of them including Bill with his trifling self lol. I do feel that Bill's love for his daughters is genuine and that gives him some depth. A few of the characters I don't care for that much (like Bill, Ashley, Vanessa). I wasn't too big on Andre at first, but I am warming up more to him as the actor is settling into the role. I like most of the characters on this show. Also, I am interested in seeing what happens if Eva indeed goes and lives with the new doctor that was introduced. I could see this adding another layer to her story, maybe she will become more vixen-ish, on what type of relationship they end up having. And/or maybe she will end up becoming more hardened as she deals with being an outcast, especially if she falls out with Leslie as well. I think that AM will do a good job of showcasing the different layers of this character as she deals with the fallout of the affair/paternity reveal.

Got another sad news from the Bahamian community (not a celebrity)  https://www.instagram.com/p/DJMSrYCgyes/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ== Former Bahamian Senate President J Henry Bostwick, Husband of former 1st Bahamian Female Cabinet Minister Dame Janet Bostwick is dead yesterday on his 86th birthday.    Thanks and for those who've aren't familiar with the talk shows in The Bahamas on this thread here, his talk show named The Freedom March with Dr Rodney Moncur that airs on ILTV and The Beat 103.5 FM Nassau every weekday afternoons. IIRC, he suffered a illness before he died.  Here's the link for his final taping of the show before his death: https://ewnews.com/this-is-powerful-rodney-moncurs-final-sign-off/

    • One thing I thought about is if Hayley will have a reaction to Bill threatening to kidnap and sell a baby. That's another level of viciousness and with her just having thought she was pregnant it might make her feel some type of way.
    • You're welcome. Fall 1982-Spring 1985 was the peak of primetime soaps. What a time to have been alive.
    • 1990/91 Cheers, Roseanne, A Different World, The Cosby Show, Empty Nest, The Golden Girls were still Top 10 shows, and Murphy Brown and Designing Women became Top 10 shows. It was the following season that I think was the transition season for sitcoms.
    • @xtr I loved Martin in Thursday's episode, he was almost a different character. I thought he was flirty, funny, carefree, and giggly. Glad I have someone to share my top 2 women(Nicole and Eva) with, I agree Nicole is the heart of the Dupree family, and also the heart of the show IMO. We rode into the show on the passenger side of her car, lol. What I am enjoying the most about the show, is that they did such a great job character building, because all I care about is the CHARACTER journey. Nicole, Eva, Leslie, Dani, Chelsea, etc. very invested in what's coming next. I even feel that way about Mona, Shanice, and Doug.
