I have to admit I'm surprised. I knew Regis was popular, but his departure was such a non-event that I thought people were fine with him going.

I got sick of him a few years ago and haven't watched any of Regis & Kelly in a long time.

I guess people like to be annoyed early in the morning.

The ratings for Live werent high to begin with...I think they ranked low in the ratings....its not like the show was a blockbuster hit with Regis in it.

Every damn body in the AM is annoying. But then again, I grew up watching Captain Kangaroo and Jane Pauley.... not an act that's easy to follow...

LIVE pulled a 2.7 and 3.5 million last week. Whoever wrote that article is comparing Regis' last week which pulled an above average 4.2 and 5.5 million. LIVE is doing about average so I don't understand the fuss.

Yeah....Live never had a 4.2 with Regis recently. The show was averaging around a 3 ratings point with Regis on...it only picked up the last week because he was leaving. Had he not left the show it would still be pulling the same 3s and high 2's.

Here's the original NY Post article that this blog referenced:

Here's a Hollywood Reporter article that ran the same week that the NY Post article came out which touts that Kelly's ratings are actually up YOY.

Whom do you believe?

That's funny because I read another article in the Sunday paper that stated the opposite - that ratings were great despite Regis' departure.

Someone's fudging the truth here....

Adding more context to understand the situation:

For the week ending Jan. 22, ratings for Live With Kelly dropped 10 percent from the comparable week a year earlier. The show had a 2.7 household rating (3.66 million viewers per day) compared to a 3.0 rating ((3.95 million viewers) the same week a year earlier.

So what happened? Was it a weak line-up of co-host for the week, which included Seth Meyers, Mario Lopez and Dana Carvey?

No, say sources at Disney. The same week one year ago, right after the Martin Luther King holiday, was when Regis suddenly announced (on Jan. 18, 2011) that he was leaving the show. That exploded across the media landscape and the show’s ratings for the week jumped.

Regis is very annoying. I don't miss him. They need to find a replacement already. It's not hard to do....

What bothers me about Regis is that he doesn't know anything about any of the guests who come on and he doesn't pay attention to anything they say. He's just not a good interviewer.

But yeah I knew he was well-liked, I don't know why, but he is... To me Regis leaving isn't anything close to the devastation of Bob Barker leaving TPIR but people love him for some reason.

I love Regis, he never annoyed me, Live! was his show, not Kelly's and not Kathie Lee's...Disney didn't want to pay him fairly and treated him poorly because of his age, I just think the whole thing is crappy.
