soaps that ended in a cliffhanger

Which was crappy, if you ask me. CBS knew they weren't going to renew DALLAS. Ratings had become abysmal; plus, with DYNASTY gone already, and FALCON CREST and KNOTS LANDING also about to go, it was clear that era of the glitzy primetime soap was coming to an end. With all the big actor returns, the timing was perfect for a nice, big, splashy finish. Instead, we got a finale that was about as ludicrous as Bobby in the shower.

I can't remember, how did Dallas end?

Port Charles did but thats bc ABC cancelled the show while the cast was on hiatus and didnt allow them back to film a conclusion. Assholes

Yeah, it was when they were on the "6 months on, 6 months off" schedule. The final episode was actually filmed months before the cancellation was announced, which was, I believe, shortly before they were to resume filming.

And had Port Charles won the Daytime Emmy in 2003, they *might've* been picked back up....

Oh man, what a to die for soap shooting schedule. I'm not even in the mood to go in on pp right now, but that could have saved them some ducats.

I remember some of the PC actors saying it was crucial they win the emmy, cause that basically clinched their fate to be cancelled or not

Kinda sad considering they don't mean *that* much. Even if it was still 2003. I mean, it saved Santa Barbara in the 80's, but...

At least Dallas, Dynasty and Knots Landing got reunion movies that sort of explained what happend at the end (Love them or hate them...at least they had them.) None of the daytime soaps that ended in cliff hangers had reunions and probably never will.

I forgot about Port Charles because i had stopped watching once they did those book end things. it just got too weird. Although i have to say i like Michael Easton as a vampire rather then John Mcbain. Maybe now he'll go back to doing more things that show his talent, not lack of talent.

Generations-Henry Marshall (James Reynolds) Had A Heart Attack With Doreen (Jolene Allen) as Adam (Kristof St John) walked in. Then The words To Be Continued Appeared On Screen.

I hated that damn ending!

So was it supposed to mean it was all just going to continue in our heads?

I don't remember hearing then that there was a possible 2nd chance for the show to continue on after NBC.

JR was given a chance to see what life would have been like had he never existed by an angel (Joel Grey), who turned out to be the devil. The devil begged JR to kill himself... as Bobby got home and went upstairs we heard a gunshot, and Bobby walked in, went "Oh my God!"... and fade to black.

Ugh that is awful. Did they pretend it was a dream for the reunion?

Agreed. I prefer even now to think that Erica is scheming some way to get Jackson back, (not because she loves him but because nobody rejects Erica Kane) while Stuart is helping Adam get over JR's suicide.

Exactly

IIRC, J.R. wasn't in the first several minutes of the first reunion movie, like they were playing it cagey. It's been so long I don't remember exactly.

No JR shot himself in the mirror and then went on a long vacation to "get the devil out of me." the reunion picked up with JR comming home and Bobby not knowing where JR had been in a long time.

The real cliffhanger of the first Melrose Place was wondering if Rena Sofer would ever work again after that awful performance.
