Actress Andrea Evans Secretly Battled Breast Cancer

American soap star Andrea Evans has fought and won a secret battle with cancer.

The One Life to Live actress, 54, reveals she found a lump in her breast earlier this year (11) and immediately underwent treatment to remove the tumour.

She tells People magazine, "In April I had been diagnosed with stage one breast cancer. I kept it private, but now I'm cancer-free."

And she admits it was her own campaign work to raise awareness about the disease which "saved" her own life.

She adds, "I did monthly (mammogram) exams, but I missed it. For years I stood on podiums as an ambassador for City of Hope, telling women to get their mammograms. That advice saved me."

Evans is known for her role as Tina Lord on the long-running TV show. She currently stars on another U.S. soap opera, The Bold and the Beautiful.
