Jane, yes, I agree that J.R. loves his son. Actually, I find his love for A.J. more believeable than his alcoholism. That sounds weird, but what I'm trying to say is that I've never gotten the impression that J.R.'s heart was really into being an alcoholic. A binge drinker, sure, but not a full-fledged I need it in the morning drunk.

I don't think JR Is an alcoholic and IA binge drinker is more suiting because of his pattern of drinking. Alcoholics don't only drink when things get bad they drink all the time.
