August 19, 201114 yr Member She made her rep as a breakdown writer (I think) on OLTL under Malone's first tenure, but when she briefly co-HW the show it was unwatchable, then on AMC it was unwatchable (and admidst rumours of her firing she fled to ATWT--leaving AMC without a HW. I was amazed a soap would hire her after that, but I guess she maybe knew people). I agree wholeheartedly, but maybe under a strong HW she IS a good breakdown writer--many good or decent writers make terrible HW. I watched her AMC and stomached a few errant hours of her ATWT and early OLTL. I wouldn't trust her to write a grade school play. Just find new blood, I say.
August 19, 201114 yr Member They need someone who will write traditional stuff (traditional as in family bonds and character interaction beyond propping various rapists). I don't know if PP will see that as too boring for their new format. I hope not.
August 19, 201114 yr Member I agree Eric, his first year had me returning to OLTL and I was a big fan.
August 19, 201114 yr Member What's that guy who wrote Night Shift season 2 doing? His stuff was ten times more interesting than the actual soaps were at the time.

I don't know if PP will see that as too boring for their new format. I hope not. I think if they followed this, but had a much more diverse cast, it could work. Look how popular Nuke and kish were on youtube--obviously characters people online can relate to--be it gay, black, asian, etc--would be a big draw, and for some reason I think a more important draw online than on mainstream tv. And I'm all for bringing in the Sri Rao.
August 20, 201114 yr Member IA. I dont get the need to want to recycle the same tired writers over and voer. Its part of whats been the death of soaps. Im all for a daytime newcomer I like the idea of new blood, too, and it has worked in the past. Michael Malone's first stint was successful, but most especially after he was paired with an experienced co-writer in Josh Griffith. I am not sure that I'd want a complete newbie without somebody there guiding him on the nuts and bolts of soaps.
August 20, 201114 yr Member I was a big fan of Linda Gottlieb (sp?) I would love it if she won the role of EP for one of PP's original soaps/series they've talked of developing. Maybe it's not too late for 13 Bourbon St. based off of the strength of the original pilot.
August 25, 201114 yr Member Chris Van Etten. He's a young guy (late 20's/early 30's) and has been with the show since 2001 (moving up the ladder). Sounds good. I want someone who is at least familiar with the show.
August 27, 201114 yr Member Oh. Thanks, Carl. Who (else) should write for OLTL 2.0? This guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Guare
