August 18, 201114 yr Member Who is it going to be? Who should it be? Jean P? Being a new viewer only watching under RC's regime, I am very curious to hear what everyone has to say on who the next HW should be and why?
August 19, 201114 yr Member Jean Passanante is a death warrant for any soap opera. I vote someone we've never heard of.
August 19, 201114 yr Member I vote someone we've never heard of. IA. I dont get the need to want to recycle the same tired writers over and voer. Its part of whats been the death of soaps. Im all for a daytime newcomer
August 19, 201114 yr Member I agree with Vee. Surely OLTL has someone that they can promote from within who's been there? I get they did that with Carlivati, but he needed a Co-HW to balance him out. I won't miss him having promising characters go crazy as a way to write them out, or needlessly killing off characters, or writing out promising characters because ABC has a fit and doesn't seem to want a racially/sexually diverse canvas on what should be one of the most diverse soaps out there. August 19, 201114 yr Member Ugh Jean P would make sense, she has a long history with the show, and is there now--she's perhaps my least fave headwriter I could think of at the moment. OK I like Higley less...
August 19, 201114 yr Administrator Chris Van Etten. He's a young guy (late 20's/early 30's) and has been with the show since 2001 (moving up the ladder).
August 19, 201114 yr Member I am personally a big Melissa Salmons fan, love her scripts. The show could really use a rebellious, talented, new blood type.. If Prospect Park knows anything about OLTL's reputation as the "niche" soap, they would be looking to continue this..
August 19, 201114 yr Member Chris Van Etten. He's a young guy (late 20's/early 30's) and has been with the show since 2001 (moving up the ladder). Why not? Sounds young nd fresh and could have creative ideas. I don't want anyone who is known writing either one .
August 19, 201114 yr Member I vote for anyone not involved in soaps now. Keep someone around for continuity but bring in a non soap writer.
August 19, 201114 yr Member I vote for new blood, too. I don't trust anyone on the current writing staff to know how to handle this show.
August 19, 201114 yr Member IA. I dont get the need to want to recycle the same tired writers over and voer. Its part of whats been the death of soaps. Im all for a daytime newcomer Although it is something that's plagued soaps since the late 60s, at least. But yeah, is there anyone on the writing staff who could be promoted (aside from Jean P). I know Elzabeth Page has done some HW--she co HW AMC with Agnes for a brief bit in 99 before, grrr, Jean Passanante took over--but I believe many fans don't think much of her, though I'm not sure why.
August 19, 201114 yr Member Does Ron C. have a protege that's probably the only person that I would trust on staff since proteges usually take after their mentors. Outside of that I have no idea who should be writing this soap maybe someone who writes for the online soaps like The Bay or something.
August 19, 201114 yr Member Because Jean Passanante destroyed AMC, ATWT and in a limited way OLTL. She is an uberhack who should not be employed.

I knock RC all the time on here (and I agree with you completely) but his first year was actually pretty great in hindsight. And I don't just think I'm saying that cuz he came on after the abysmal Higley, and cuz the show has become such a mess since then.
August 19, 201114 yr Member Because Jean Passanante destroyed AMC, ATWT and in a limited way OLTL. She is an uberhack who should not be employed. She made her rep as a breakdown writer (I think) on OLTL under Malone's first tenure, but when she briefly co-HW the show it was unwatchable, then on AMC it was unwatchable (and admidst rumours of her firing she fled to ATWT--leaving AMC without a HW. I was amazed a soap would hire her after that, but I guess she maybe knew people). I agree wholeheartedly, but maybe under a strong HW she IS a good breakdown writer--many good or decent writers make terrible HW. I'd be all for them trying to find fresh, non-soap blood. Is there some good playwright out there who's a big fan or something? lol
