WOW. I had no idea. In all of the reading I've done about Bill Bell this is the first I've heard of this. Of course, learning that NBC almost did a 90 minute DAYS after AW's was also as shocking. Just found ATWT fans who hadn't yet learned that AW was always intended for NBC, never offered to CBS. These things where long-held common knowledge is debunked are fascinating to me. Thanks for another one.

In the biography, Michael Brockman a high ranking ABC Daytime executive and others watched the debut episode of Restless and at the end admitted ..wow how fresh, bold and new ...and then we are in trouble! HA!

The Bells yes wanted CBS. I doubt they would have sabatoged the deal. In 1972, the Bells were not in a position to turn down a network and a production studio. CBS had a lot of PG owned soaps. The Bells wanted CBS and they got CBS...after ABC passed and NBC passed...CBS was the only network left. Remember when CBS wanted to expand Restless, Bill resisted and the network told the expansion would happen with or without him. Bill relented.

They wouldn't have had that kind of negotiating luxury to have sabotaged a deal! Then he was just the successful HW of DAYS. Lee was just a successful regional TV kind of variety & interview show person.

And, yeah, I've always thought it interesting that Lin Bolen at NBC used flattery & studio space & money to get AW & DAYS on board. Then ABC also used the carrot on Agnes who probably couldn't believe the offer of studio space! But, with Bill CBS just used the stick. Hit him in the face to get his attention & then told him they WERE doing it with or without.

Great news...it didn't take as long as expected, but the missing 6 weeks of 1979 have been found. Still waiting for the remaining 4 weeks, but will post those when they arrive. I am also going to edit these in to the correct thread so these charts will be posted in order.

At GL:
Rita railed at Roger’s lies in court.  After summations were delivered, Roger was confident he would be acquitted, but Rita resolved to tell the truth about her rape.  Lucille rubbed it in to Amanda that she overheard Diane returning Ben’s wallet after they had spent a night together.  Ross showed an interest in Jackie.  Lainie was told that there’s no guarantee she’ll ever walk again.  Alan assigned Hope to decorate a villa he wants to give to Jackie.  Katie called from the “fat farm” and learned Hillary and Floyd are on the outs.  Ben wanted to quit his job, but Dianne assured him there would be no pressure on her part.

At GH:

Alan decided to reconcile with Monica just as she and Rick finally spend a night together after she saved Rick from further depression.  Laura was hospitalized after a car crash.  She had found Bobbie with Scotty, but was unaware that Bobbie had slipped him a mickey.  Lesley flew into Rick’s arms over Laura’s condition, but he and Monica remembered their vow to get together soon.  Bryan realized that Claudia had encouraged Laura to play cool while she and Scotty were split.  Luke laid into Bobbie about Scotty and warned that she shouldn’t toy with Roy, who is really stuck on her.  Gary was miffed that Gina wouldn’t go to New York on a book publicity trip because of her research.

and at DAYS:
Amanda was thrown for a curve when Greg arrived. He returned to Chicago after a night of marital “performance failure” and suspected that another guy is in the picture. Laura’s madness, which has Julie contemplating suicide, spread to Jennifer, whom Laura filled with nightmarish tales. Marie and Jordan met. Julie insisted she won’t give her blessing to a reconciliation between Trish and David. Mike borrowed money from practically everyone. Chris felt guilty about Greg and tried to cool it with Amanda. Marlena fretted when Donna came up with another expensive gift, this time for Samantha, who won a drama award. Don advised Phyllis that Neil can’t interfere in her stock-selling plans.

    • -- I agree that the vibes are there, but I can also make the case that it's a pale imitation. That Neil Winters Lounge is already a pretty classy place, but the decor make it look tackier. Those Happy Birthday signs are tragic in design and color. The tablecloths look like they've been chosen by Helen Keller. Where is Claire? We hear stupid reasons for her lateness, but we all know it's because this show is too cheap to pay for too many actors in any one episode. It makes NO sense that Victoria has that toast to Nikki without Claire's presence. And where is Cole? Off coughing somewhere? -- The rest of the show was watching people open their black invitations from Alexander Dumas -- for a party on June 13...TWO WEEKS AWAY. So we got through the entire sweeps and still no Dumas? The big sweeps reveal is a party in France in 2 weeks??? Why anyone thinks this is good soap is beyond me.
    • Chandler Massey smirked in EVERY scene in which he appeared. He's not a good actor. He cannot get into character, ever, and plays every scene like he's Chandler running into an old friend on the street. I hate it because actors should take their work seriously and respect it and everyone around them.   It's all so real, to the point where there's no sense trying to separate Drake from his character. I snarked a lot over the years about Drake Hogestyn's acting -- very arch, lots of tics, over-the-top at times -- but I also think he was a great soap star. There was so much humanity in everything he did, and he was always a comforting and stabilizing force on screen. Flashbacks on soaps are almost always special and fun, but does anyone come across as more loving and filled with humanity than John? I don't think so. DAYS has suffered a lot of loss in the past few years. For me, this one hits the hardest.
    • “I’m not a lifelong soap fan, but I sure am now,” Wolf tells PEOPLE about creating the documentary Soaps, which includes deep dives into the biggest and most successful soap operas in the industry, with a strong focus on The Bold and the Beautiful. “It reflects, in a broader way, the cultural significance of soap operas and the incredible task involved in bringing these stories to the screen every day.”
    • I have this for the 4th act on 11/9/88, which per my files, is the first time John and Stefano are in a scene together: Limo (Roman, Diana, Stefano, Milo) Then their second time together is 11/17/88 in the second-to-last act: ON LOCATION: Beach & Cliff (Diana, Roman, Stefano) I'd have to check the 2016 logs, so I don't know who shares scenes as easily in this year, but these are the last 4 episodes that John and Stefano were both in together: 1/8/16, 1/11/16, 3/1/16, 3/2/16.
    • I'm going to respond to you about this show. I've been accused of hating on it for some reason or another. But as a 53-year-old black man I do not hate this show at all. It heavily represents people like me, but I want it to be treated well and not just pushed with half-assedness, which is what I feel has happened on several occasions so far. Bad editing, bad cliffhangers, or no cliffhangers at all, disappearing characters with dropped storylines, etc. I can understand shows no longer wanting certain characters or  storylines, but why the "Judy Winslow" effect? I'm really finding it weird that Jacob doesn't mention his father or his detective partner. Jacob was smack dab in the middle of them both.
    • I love many things about BTG very much. For me, it's greatest strength is how the family relationships are so beautifully written. The deep love between family members while acknowledging each other's flaws--it's SO GOOD.  The best of the best is the two sister relationships: loving but very different sisters Dani and Nicole and adversarial sisters Kat and Eva. These two relationships can anchor the show for many years to come, in my opinion. (The one caveat is that the young and very talented Colby and Ambyr may want to leave the show sooner rather than later, but that's to be expected). My biggest problem with this show is this: Where are the romantic love stories? Where are the star-crossed lovers? Almost every character on this show is married, or in a committed relationship, or just fooling around. Right now the only potential for this are in the Ashley/Andre/Derek and Kat/Tomas/Eva situations. Like a lot of people, I feel the sooner they ditch Ashley and Derek, the better. I hate picking on actors, but the characters are so blah and bland it's like they're a parody of soap characters. I like Andre, and there's some indication they might have him become more serious about Dani, but I don't see that becoming a big love story. I could be wrong. Kat and Eva fighting over a man would be amazing. Over Tomas? No.  I've noticed on social media some people are starting to ship Kat and Jacob. I think that shows how much viewers long for a messy love story. There is much I enjoy about BTG and I have no intention of bailing on it. But over all my many years of watching soap operas, the thing that always got me the most excited about them was the question: "When are those two finally going to get together?"

Some initial thoughts.   1) a Who's who back in the day with an assortment of well known performers. 2) Surprised Debra Messing would agree to play a conservative character 3) Not surprised a network didn't pick this up because showing a conservative that is human/likable is a no no in Hollywood LOL
    • Yes from when they went on Let’s Make a Deal too. Pam stole Forrester designs for Jackie M. Of course a month later we saw Nick, Lesley, Owen, and Bridget all exit in the same episode.
