August 21, 201114 yr Author Member The Grass Roots set a record for being on the Billboard charts 307 straight weeks. They are one of nine bands that charted twenty nine or more Top 100 Billboard singles and went on to sell over twenty million records worldwide. Another interesting fact is they hold the all time attendance record for a US concert with 600,000 people converging on Washington, D.C on July 4th, 1982. After the concert, bands were barred from playing in Washington in the same venue because of the message they were sending to young people and a change in morals. The Grass Roots went on to appear in over 50 national television shows. Many of their hits are still playing on radio stations to this day. They charted one platinum album, two gold albums, thirteen gold singles and charted singles a total of twenty nine times.
August 27, 201114 yr Member That medley from the Ed sullivan show is one of the best performances anywhere. I saw Rob twice in concert, once in 1986, and again in 1989. He never sounded the same as he did in the 70's... but he was entertaining and treid very hard. I think Dennis Provisor with his adlibs really added alot when he joined the group in 1969, and of course, I think Warren Entner is one of the most beautiful men that ever walked the earth. I like most all of Grass Roots singles, they ahd so many good ones, and some later ones that were really great, that weren't as successful:

December 1, 201114 yr Member It's so hard to look at these people from the 60s with their youth and hippie hair and realize they are either seniors now or dead.
July 11, 201213 yr Author Member The Grass Roots lead singer, Rob Grill passed away a year ago July 11, 2011 he was 67. He died in his wife's arms while listening to 'Let's Live for Today,' The Grass Roots hits in the 60s and 70s Midnight Confessions," "Two Divided by Love," "Let's Live for Today," "Sooner or Later" and "Temptation Eyes." The band had about dozen different members over the years except for Rob who was a Grass Root member for about 45 years. The Grass Roots' former drummer, Rick Coonce, died February 2011. The band's former guitarist, Creed Bratton, is also an actor and is currently playing Creed on the NBC series The Office and Warren Entner is an artist management now. Some may remember the many appearances of The Grass Roots on American Bandstand and may remember Rob bringing his baby son Christian on the show, he died of cancer when he was 39 Aug. 11, 2010 - Rob died eleven months to the day of his son on July 11, 2011.
