I don't think there is anyone in the AMC cast who is that huge a draw that can't be replaced. Erica KAne is the only one that could not be

recast. They could get a name actor or two and be fine IMO. Or as fine as they will be online. Unlike most I don;t think actor fanbases mean squat.

I think AMC will suffer without Susan Lucci but I also think AMC has been so hollowed out in recent years that they may be able to reinvent themselves; this may be just what they needed. The only vet I'd miss besides her would be Opal.

That's a shame they're losing a week of episodes. I don't know if PP would have demanded they lose a week's episodes. It sounds more like ABC to me.

The problem is AMC's vets have been cut in half in recent years. Losing Canary was a huge hit and losing MacDonnell didn't help either, whether or not he was involved in the storylines. OLTL does still have a few more vets than AMC but not many more and I feel like without a core group of vets, both shows will fail since only the newer or younger viewers who might not be invested in the show's history will continue to watch.

OLTL is filled with a bunch of newbies and replaceable characters anyway. Even if they lost everyone except Slezak they could start fresh and bring on new people to play legacy characters from the core families.

I thought OLTL was going off on January 20. I wish ABC wouldn't pre empt during the holidays this year.

I think both shows could stand to re-invent themselves, to be quite honest. Though they do need a few core characters to stick around.

I'd be fine with a Ryan/Greenlee/Kendall-less AMC. We already know we are losing Debbi Morgan and with her gone, would they break up Angie and Jesse to keep Darnell Williams, though he'd probably not continue without her. Irizarry, Knight, McClain, Larson and Young are all important veterans to keep, and they all seem to be up in the air. Trent Garrett, Michael Nouri and Jaime Luner all seem to be making cameo appearances. The first two aren't needed and Liza can be written out if Luner doesn't want to continue. AMC has a lot of past vets they could bring back and refocus the show.

I could see Hillary B. Smith, Robert Woods, Erika Slezak all continuing on OLTL. I can see them all taking big cuts. HBS already does a web soap and Woods seems loyal. Kassie DePaiva and Roger Howarth seem to be tossups. I don't know that I see Howarth going onboard. DePaiva would probably continue. She's been very loyal.

As for the rest? I could take them or leave them. Half of the cast will be gone by summer anyway .... I figure Florencia Lozano will be out soon after Trevor St. John and no real need for Ted King. Michael Easton will probably bow out and I'd guess Melissa Archer is probably a toss up. Bree Williamson is already out.

I'm not worried so much about losing as I am with who replaces them and who the show focuses on ... I think both soaps need a huge overhaul, though they also need to keep key cast members and bring back past cast members to draw in viewers.

I dont really get why anyone thinks any of these "actors" are so essential to these shows succeeding online. CHaracters yes actors no aside from maybe Slezak or Lucci and maybe one or two others from each that would fill key places on the canvas. Frankly if AMC has Erica her family could easily be recast with other actresses. I contend the same for Vicki on OLTL. Maybe AMC keeps Jacob Young to center that part of the canvas. I can't think of anyone on the hospital side thats essential other than Debbi Morgan and she won't be around. Maybe David/VI

I think it's essential that AMC secure Susan Lucci. I also think they should do whatever they can to keep Vincent Irizarry. As for OLTL, I hope that they can keep Roger Howarth because that story has revitalized the show. And of course OLTL should do whatever they can to keep Erika Slezak and hopefully get back Robin Strasser too.

    • To their credit, the new writers are clever to stick to current events from the time they were taping, versus trying to predict current events at the time the episode airs.  Case in point, Susan and questionable choice to hop on a cruise two days after her son was shot, and the case remains unsolved, so her remains at risk...

Although cruises around the world are not uncommon for Salem citizens like Julie, it seemed like the type of reference DOOL continues to like dropping into scripts for humor. Also, help me understand the Marlena and EJ interaction.  Didn't they come to a mutual détente earlier in the week?  I felt gaslighted, but I could've just as easily misunderstood Marlena's earlier talk to Belle, and then EJ. And is Bo in Boston (near Ceara) or Greece (where he was transferred after he was shot)?  I bet it is expensive to fly a coma patient transatlantically!
    • It was one of the bigger disappointments that Sarah wasn't part of the book.
    • They clearly loved her offcamera. I wish I could appreciate her work more, but...I don't. Thanks for telling me what Levin said at the end. I still don't think Carney was bad, but I guess he would always see them as not shining compared to Kate.
    • Around 2002, when I would have killed Alan, I'd bring back Amanda, who would have a love/hate relationship with Philip mirroring Alan and Alex, I'd have a proper Alex recast, I might bring back Alan-Michael (and maybe Hope or Mike on recurring), and I'd bring in a long-lost son for Philip who would be around his late teens or early twenties.  I agree that Philip would still need a rival. That's where giving Roger another long-lost kid (not Sebastian) could have worked in this timeframe.
    • @ranger1rg @DemetriKaneI was sure I was swimming upstream alone on this. I get that they are all proud to be Duprees, but the writers are just overplaying it. Ted's an ass, but presumably, he's been a model husband for the last 25 (?) years...but he just isn't good enough (or can handle or whatever..) a Dupree woman? *cough* I guess the next "shocker" is whatever Vernon and Anita's secret is. I hope it's something a little more original than him cheating on Anita.
    • Yes, that was probably to he case. In  the book, after Malcolm Groome (Pat) said he dated Kathleen Tolan,  he said he saw her theater work and found her to be  "compelling and charismatic actress"  In one of Ilene Kristen's many video interviews promoting the book, she also praised Kathleen.
    • David knowing Burke was going to die and making sure to say goodbye to him was very unnerving. Some of the last moments where David Henesy's otherworldly vibes from those first few years are put to good use. I agree that the few months right before 1795 are excellent. They do a great job with building suspense and going through insane twists.  DS was never going to be able to have a long run anyway, with the high burnout rate and a number of principal cast not likely to stay, but I do wonder what might have been if they had done a better job with the present day after the return from 1795.
    • Off of the Xander/Paulina scenes in Thursday's episode, I really hope that means we're getting Theo coming home permanently. I didn't really see much of Cameron Johnson in the role, and though he was pretty and I'm thankful for his occasional thirst traps on Insta, Kyler Pettis could not act, so a brand new recast would be fine by me, but if you all think Cameron doesn't a real shot, I'd be fine with that, too. I just want Theo to be taken seriously as a character for once and make his place on this show like he deserves. I was annoyed the second Susan showed up again, but I do admit it was interesting to see her reunite with Marlena and see their dynamic when EJ joined them. Hopefully now we're done with her forever. As for John, this last bit of hope Marlena is getting before the inevitable is already so devastating. This is going to be so hard to watch. Xander reminding the audience he IS a cold blooded murderer, point blank. Paul Telfer was devilishly terrifying. Taking off his jacket was such a sexy power move. That Philip doesn't have a permanent dent in his face will be a miracle. It'll be interesting if it'll just be the one punch or if next week will see Philip more battered and bruised. How bad are they going to make Xander look? I will say, the best part of this story is that I'm not rooting for one over the other. How Philip reacts to this violence will be interesting. I also liked how everything with stealing the drug ended up. Very messy. Steve even made me laugh at one point, and I've been indifferent to him for years. I hope poor Kevin doesn't get scapegoated, but it'll be nice to see him presumably reunite with Shawn next. We'll be really lucky if Belle somehow crosses paths with him, too.
    • I've really been enjoying seeing him/Smitty interact with other actors/characters
    • She didn't want a hotel room; doubt she's going to want the apartment room, either. There was no reason to re-arrange the other one. This was the most logical move.
