ABC stands to make $$$ from PP so the more successful PP is, the better for ABC.

And some affiliates did air some programming note, that AMC will continue online. I feel bad for their phones next week when lots of angry AMCers scream ok who got SHOT?

PP should have paid Lucci to do a cameo commercial at the very end... thank you for 41 years fans, stay tune for news of future shows at www.amcliveson.com or some such web address.

You have to strike while the iron is hot... and they had millions tuned in on Friday

But Marceline brings up a good point, PP doesn't seem to have any show info ready at all. It's getting quite odd really.

It's not as much lampooning as it's just cheesy parodies of the idea of a soap instead of actually watching the show. Back when SNL used to be good, in the late '80s, or in the '70s, they had very biting parodies which at times seemed like they really did watch the show fairly closely. Mad TV was the same in its first few years. And SCTV was expert at this, which means many of their parodies hold up even today.

I don't think anyone at SNL today watches much of anything beyond their own projects. Everything they do is so off and mostly just a vehicle for face-pulling.

There are soap cliches and they went by those. All I have to do is compare it to All My Luggage, which was much more in line with what a parody of AMC at that point would have been.

SNL has always been at its satirical best when they stick to politics. Their Obama stuff was too weak as they played it too straight and PC. But man Tina Fey nailed Sarah Palin's hide and those skits are still hilarious to watch. Amy did a great Hillary, too.

I only tune into SNL during election years, then the writers really get creative juices flowing.

The sorry fact is SNL's parody was not out-dated as all those soapy cliches are still over-used... multiple back from the deads, twins by different dads, husbands popping up out of the blue, over-done closeups with dramatic music...evil twins, doppelgangers... UGH I winced at every soap cliche I could put to a recent story.

It's not SNL's fault a STALE parody from 70s is as applicable today in 2011. I remember when OLTL in 92-94 was getting quite a bit of media attention from Donahue amongst others for controversial and cutting edge storytelling. SNL couldn't have mocked the AIDs quilt, the gang rape or the molestation stories.

Look at OLTL's bullying story, it was one of those controversial straight from the headlines at first. AT's acting sucked but AW's suicide attempt broke my heart. It was well-done. The story was touching a nerve with many fans tuning back in... and what does RC do with it? Turns it into a cheesy Ghost Gigi haunts crappy neglectful dad Rex crap... how about instead tough Shane faces Jack in therapy sessions (ala the rape therapy scenes)? Or Jack stands trial for real and the entire issue of bands of bullying at LH was really explored. Jack did NOT act alone. Where is the girl who went along? Where is Brad, oh yes shuffled off screen even though he was the most believable little bully of them all. Now RC appears to be writing Shane into a brooding, psycho... ok well then go with THAT, show us his therapist worrying about his repressed rage and loneliness. Show us Shane's inner mind more instead of Rex racing around like a chicken with his head cut off and silly porcupine crap.

I am UTTERLY disgusted RC once again took a serious subject and turned it into CAMP for his own amusement. He did this with the gay marriage story too.

Sorry I didn't mean to rant so long but consider this my hat-tip to SNL... they got it right, a STALE OLD parody is what STALE soap writing deserves.

I think they feared people wouldn't get it. I watched with a friend of mine and he knows I've been upset about AMC ending so kinda gave me a wearied look--but I told him they wouldn't lampoon anything I cared about and I was right. As he said, and he's seen maybe 4 mins of the show, she didn't even seem like Susan Lucci.

I'm just not sure if they cared about parodying any soap, past or present. Stuff like everyone having AIDS, or people wearing patches - it just seems like a lot of random cliches thrown together for a laugh.

What has hurt daytime the most - hostility towards minorities, arch-conservative writing, etc. - is what has also made SNL all but irrelevant, outside of a few moments like Tina Fey.

Agreed on daytime.

Somewhat agree on SNL as liberal Tina Fey wrote SNL for a while and she did some brutal stuff on George W. Bush. But SNL's lack of minority players has been an issue since day one.

But when I want to watch hard-biting political satire, I tune into Comedy Central. Colbert is fearless and Stewart has a better creative writing staff than SNL.
