Which ones helped shape the soaps at various periods and/or may be the among the most memorable, iconic or identifieable with them? GH Luke and Scotty. Their rivalry lasted forever and it wasn't some retconned thing like the way they added all the extra Cassadines in the 90s.

I would also say Bobbie and Lucy, and even though it was brief it was very memorable: Anna and Olivia. Luke and Helena of course, and I guess I would add Leslie/Monica.

I thought Sharon/Grace worked better with Grace as Sharon's friend, insecure and jealous and stupid and doing the "right thing" for selfish reasons (like keeping Cassie for a year), but still caring about her. Once Grace turned all-bad, Gareis lost any spark.

Soap rivalries in recent years have been too one-sided to make me care, other than anger at the storyline (ANY Sheffer rivalry EVER; "good" Tea and "bad" Blair; "good" Kelly and "bad" Blair, etc.), both characters are destroyed (Phyllis/Sharon) or they are just frankly forced, bizarre and anticlimactic (Todd/Patrick, David and the Martin family, Ryan and anyone).
