I think Gottlieb's biggest faux pas was allowing Todd to become the "anti-hero" of the show. He should have been killed/writte off (much like Jake on AW), but soaps love their rapists. I don't watch any of the soaps now, so I don't know if that love for rapists still goes on. They created such a strong story with Marty's gang rape and then had to rewrite history (forgetting Todd had raped before) so they could turn Todd into what he became. Granted, it's not as bad as what Carlivati would do years later, but it's still icky and an insult.

The cast is what puts it over, really. Tonja is at her most unhinged, RSW and Laura Koffman are very weird to watch making out but admirably giving it their all, Elaine Princi is always committed and of course there's Erika. Even the Buchanan kids are doing their best with a dumb story. And there is some fun interplay amidst the inanity.

Yup, in spite of it all, the cast more or less makes it work. (I'll also admit to being a performances over composition kind of audience member.)

I'm just looking forward to eventually getting to see the arrivals of Luna, Andrew and especially Blair (I think I got the order right).

Agreed. It's going to be exhilarating stuff to see the transformation.

An insane moment of synergy: In the July 16 episode I am positive that is Grace Phillips in a deodorant ad around 23:40, a few months before she becomes Sarah Gordon. Wild also that they appeared to turn the original (Buchanan) Palace Hotel into the Buchanan mansion later on, unless I am very wrong.

Good Lord, this is Fyvush Finkel maybe a year or two out from Picket Fences at the NYC diner with Tina and Cord. You can tell they were treading water for material in July '91 when half an episode is devoted to Karen Witter's bob makeover (masterminded by Penn Jillette!) and has a ton of narrative ellipses dissolve transitions.

Kevin is awfully sprung for Stephanie who according to Twitter only first appeared almost exactly two months ago. And Robyn Griggs maybe a month before this. I wonder when they cut her - possibly in the fall, then she came back as part of the Carlo murder story?

Ending an episode on Robyn Griggs singing "Words Get in the Way": Also a choice.

If u think turning rapists turning into romantic leads and heroes is worse then thank god u didn’t watched DAYS during the 2010‘s.  They turned a serial killer into a romantic lead and heroe who was eating all the screen time lmao Rapists I could get behind it if it was well written like with Jack Deveraux from DAYS.

But Todd from being a monster and a villain tos comedian and romantic lead was just…. Something lol

Craig Carlson is still credited in the August 9, 1991, episode on YouTube unless the episode credits were added in from another episode. Gottlieb is also not credited though she was reported as doing some behind the scenes work between May and July before her official start date. Raunch, who had previously quit, was suppose to stay on for two months until Linda Gottlieb was free, but he secured Santa Barbara and jumped ship.

I know when I looked at this earlier in the year, Malone´s announcement was made in the same week as Mary Ryan Munisteri on Loving. I believe we were able to narrow down Munisteri´s start ot the second week of August. Malone´s is probably the same week.

    • If you ever make it to the Paley Center in NYC (fka Museum of TV and Radio), in their viewing room, you can watch Days 1/1/73 featuring Denise Alexander as Susan. It’s her last month on the show before switching to GH.
    • Overall I was impressed with this week and fall out from the revealation.  I am looking forward to seeing the Nicole/Dana showdown next week.  I do wonder if June is going to be tied to Hayley.
    • I thought Adam and Sara got married? Although I do not remember any mention of her when Adam returned for Blake's weddings. But MA certainly got the short end of the stick storywise, as Marland's obsession with therapy reared it's head.
    • Didn’t Meg Bennett return to SFT as a writer in the last few years. I always wondered if they tried to get her back as Liza.
    • Millette Alexander got the short end of the stick once they killed off Joe. The Justin thing was a non-starter. Then she was briefly married to Alan's corrupt lawyer and HE was killed off. She was paired briefly with Adam and that ended because she believed Holly over Roger about the rape. Definitely, Marland had zero interest in her except as the therapist for the many, many of his female characters who needed therapy. It's not odd she left the show. One of the rare 1978 episodes on YT shows Alan going to Cedars for a physical check-up. He ends up with Sarah as his doctor. In between making mysoginistic comments about women doctors, he also openly flirts with her. It's very obvious they were chem testing Sarah and Alan. It's a really good scene. Bernau is both obnoxious and charming and Millette is amazing, trying to be pleasant and profesional without rolling her eyes at him, but at the same time maybe a LITTLE bit attracted to him. An interesting what-might-have-been. So it appears the Dobsons were actively looking for someone to pair her with, they just never found the right one for a long-term story.

You've inspired me to add my 2 cents about this product placement debacle.  I absolutely HATE the way they are doing product placement in BTG. I really hope this doesn't catch on or evolve into more and more of these moments. It's incredibly off-putting to place them in a highly dramatic moment where we are still on the emotional journey with the character. What is next - Dani spraying the house while having a nervous breakdown? It makes me not want to buy the product they're selling. LOL. That's just me.
    • I always get the vibe that Martin/Smitty have an emotional abusive relationship set up... but I doubt the show will really go there with that element given that Martin is a Dupree (and we can't have the Duprees be portrayed in a negative light), and because it's a gay male relationship.   Even though abuse in the physical or emotional sense is a huge thing in a lot of gay and lesbian relationships. The Ashley/Naomi scene reads off to me for one reason....  Ashley was talking about the new scandal without any sort of mention and/or subtext.. considering she knew both Silk Press Sheila and Eva.  I'm not sure if the writers have forgotten, if Jen Jacobs isn't able to play subtext, or what.   It's just apparent the writers do not know how to write a young white millennial couple.. and perhaps they need to get a younger white script writer to be on staff... or let the actors play around with the lines to make them more natural/realistic.
