Thanks.

Why the hell wouldn't she ask for alimony from a cheater? God, they totally ruined her. ha!

Did Rosa Nevin piss someone off or something?

They also ruined Nico by making him an off-screen cheater.

They should've just said Nico died and Cecily wanted to return to Pine Valley to be with family (Phoebe) and old friends (Tad, Dixie).

I don't know, Pine Charles. I think there was a place both for Cecily and for Laurel, especially after what the latter became. IMO, if anyone was not essential to ALL MY CHILDREN at that time, it was Janet. I don't care if she was being played by Robin Mattson. Beverlee McKinsey could have played Janet, and I'd still question making Janet from Another Planet a permanent fixture in Pine Valley.

YES. The idea that Trevor would fall in love with Natalie's evil sister who nearly killed her and then marry her was just ridiculous to me. I love Robin Mattson, and I loved her as Janet, but she should have been a totally new character. Honestly, I never liked Trevor, and I thought it was a damn shame Kate Collins was dropped to keep Trevor and his obnoxious accent on camera. If anything, Trevor and Tim should have left town when Natalie died.

Yeah, no if Kate was willing to stay, James should have been the one let go since they couldn't get along. It still shocks me to this day the amount of fanmail he got. I never found Trevor all that interesting or appealing as a character. He was quite obnoxious most of the time. I always rooted for Janet against him. Natalie at that point had many more ties to the canvas and Kate is such a wonderful actress. Natalie should have been a permanent fixture.

Thanks for posting that clip.

Go Phoebe! Loves!

It was dumb of Cecily not to ask for alimony.

I loved her in the '80s clips, though. Sad.

Speaking of Trevor "Fred Flintstone" Dillon - I liked him w/ Nat back in the day, but had no use for him after Kate Collins left. If I had to choose between James Kiberd and Kate Collins, I'd no doubt choose Kate.

That said, IRL Kiberd seems like a nice guy (from the clips I've watched) and apparently Kate and he have buried the hatchet (given she talked nicely of him in her SoapCentral interview).

I liked Trevor at the time I started watching. He was a hothead but I thought he was likeable and had good chemistry with most people. I also thought Kiberd knew how to tone it down and never just blew up through all his scenes, like Justin Deas did a lot on GL around the same time.

I started watching when he was married to Laurel. I never understood the point of her character.

I think there was a place for Janet, a damaged woman redeeming herself. The relationship with Trevor was very questionable, but again, good writing would have made it work.

    • I feel like Leslie won't be lasting long on this show. Probably a murder mystery to be. She's alienated Mona and Jan, the best people she had, just to stick it to a married man.

    • Thank you @dragonflies ! Appreciate you finding this. There's a lot in the article about Black representation on soaps, history, quoting quite a few people. I replied on the behind-the-scenes thread here: https://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/topic/66310-btg-history-behind-the-scenes-articles-photos/?do=findComment&comment=2023349
    • Lemay came on in 1971, Rauch in 1972. From 1971-1974, they pretty much continued the show as it had been under Agnes Nixon, with its escapist star-crossed love triangles. But then in 1975, with the expansion to an hour, it seemed they were given permission by NBC or Lin Bolen, to do more of their own thing. They did and transformed the show into a high-brow theater hour, focusing on their favorites and on psychological conflicts. It was good from 1975-1979, but it was a bit overhyped and wasn't sustainable.  Lin Bolen was into psychological, realistic drama, as seen from the failed soap opera she developed  and pushed from 1974-1975, How to Survive a Marriage. I wonder how much of the new one hour AW in 1975 was Bolen encouraging/ordering Lemay and Rauch to incorporate some elements of her How to Survive a Marriage. Or perhaps Lemay and Rauch were fans of How to Succeed, and incorporated elements of it on their own?
    • Thank you to dragonflies for finding this article! Victoria Rowell says she was asked to audition for Anita Dupree ‘Beyond the Gates’ is renewed as veteran Black soap actors cheer its success https://apnews.com/article/beyond-gates-renewal-d7369f7a60a0a992483294acb950ef6d  And more about the article:  Discussion of Black representation and history on soaps. Colorism.  Fan engagement.  Quotes from Victoria Rowell, Darnell Williams, Veronica Redd, some professors, and some viewers.  (And a quote from George Cheeks from last year). Ms. Rowell is interviewed and talks about her history on Y&R and how a character can inspire viewers. Regarding BTG After “Beyond the Gates” was announced, Rowell says she received a letter from CBS acknowledging her place in the show’s DNA. “I have been contacted with great respect from the powers that be at CBS, thanking me for all of my hard work, recognizing the work that I have done that has influenced this moment and I appreciate that,” she said. She was “astounded” to be asked to audition for the matriarch role of Anita Dupree, but says she didn’t hear back after submitting her tape. The role went to Tamara Tunie, whom Rowell describes as “a brilliant actress.” CBS did not respond to a request for comment. Great article.  The same Associated Press author Alicia Rancilio did some nice interviews for the GH 60th anniversary in 2023.  Typed articles on the AP website and also video interviews on AP youtube.
    • Agreed that Phillip most definately needed to stay on the canvas if GA was going to play him. Too much history going back to the Dobsons there. Also, they were not hamstrung on Phillip/Beth the way they were on Jeva, so the characters had room to move on to others logically and stay in each others orbits...(I am not saying what they chose to do with Beth in Ruachieville was good but..) I think Reva should have been brought back to cause trouble for Josh and Annie, go through angst, get together with Josh and leave town together. There was no where else to go with them after that as post Annie is when all the ridiculous things happened to keep them on screen.   But Zimmer had been in Hollywood where a Khan said about O'leary..."Realized they couldnt get arrested" lol and she was bound and determined to keep going (not that I blame her, a check is a check) and the Jeva nuts (prompted by Zimmer and Newman at times) would scream if they were off screen for 5 minutes.  The only possible story for Reva was for Josh to be killed or for him to finally have enough of her and leave town. I thought Reva was most interesting during that weird post RN period when she broke up with Kyle and was living with Cane...she had jobs, she was involved with a lot of different people and was not always the center of the story.
    • I think Ms. Rowell should be one of Anita's former bandmates... maybe the one that still harbors resentment over being abandoned. I think the Articulettes probably started out more like The Supremes.. and probably when the other bandmates wanted to go in a more funk/synth pop direction (as what happened to groups in the late 70s/early 80s)... I could have seen Anita bail and forge a solo career since perhaps that genre was not to her liking... and the group disbanded. Wasn't Ms. Morgan also doing another project when the show was casting?  Maybe one day she'll join the show when a role opens up and her schedule is open.     I don't mind the set, but is it a hip place.. or a more upscale after work/weekend night spot.   I'm not sure what vibe it's trying to go for. Orphey Jean's is my favorite... it's a great gathering/neutral meeting place where people of high incomes, middle incomes, and working class can all gather and hang out.
    • Oh, see, I love it; it feels very east coast, and I've been in places like it before. It's unique. And ugh, anyone but Victoria Rowell. Please, anyone but her.
    • It's not going to change, as said plenty of times.

Without a proper person to come in and not be afraid of pissing audiences off, it isn't going to happen. Okay, no, per Zach Tinker there seems to be no investment, not needed, and HELL NO!
