There is more important things to protest than a soap. How about all the good teachers around the country who are losing their jobs because states don't have the funding to pay them??

Yes there are. And I've done it. Maybe not for the teachers, but for various other serious causes.

But there's nothing wrong with protesting against the end of an era. Who is it hurting?

Yes, she does. She does with me, at least. Shamelessly sniping at a woman who ain't did sh!t to her drops her a few pegs on my List of Awesome Soap Stars. Robin Strasser is messy as hell.

I gotta say, I respect her for fighting for what she believes in.

And do fans realize what a bear of a job it would be to move TWO soaps to cable? For us it's just a matter of getting adjusted to a new channel and timeslot but the work behind the scenes would be immense. And let's not assume that everything will be all hunky dory "this was all just a bad dream." There will be new sheriffs in town with their own tastes putting down their own money and changes will inevitably be made. Imagine if your favorite stars get dropped in the transition. More boycotting?

There is a lot to be learned from the soaps like Ellen Wheeler's GL for instance (what worked and what didn't). There are ways to do serials in a less costly manner and they needn't ask for five of our days of the week. There are talented writers on this very site who can in a flash whip up great story ideas that are rooted in their love and knowledge of the medium and this kind of talent needs to be nurtured and given a chance to shine. Soaps lasting on life support is not going to be the way. It's going to have to be an all out burn the motha down and out of the ashes...

What is the incentive for another channel to pick up a soap opera? Nostalgia... If someone had an amazing, realistic business plan, and went for it, perhaps things were different. Unfortunately there is no one out there who has the knowledge and the connections to do this feasibly.

Who said anything about two? Just move the one that matters. All My Children.

Kidding. Kidding.

Taking shots at Oprah isn't "fighting for what she believes in." It's being messy as hell, and 'round here, bitches get snatched for that kind of thing. Then you consider the fact that through alllll of this, I don't think she's offered any solutions to any problems at all, besides the obvious "the format needs to change" that everyone's been throwing out since before GL went to Peapack and PSNS went to DirecTV.

But I get it. She's a mouthpiece. And she's also one of the most beloved actresses on either show. Of course people are going to rush up to defend her.

We may not agree with everything/one she decides to gripe about but I will say this about Robin... she has not just jumped on the Save Our Soaps bandwagon because HER show's been canned. She's been rallying the troops on her hotline since ANOTHER WORLD got cancelled! She got louder when GL and ATWT followed suit. She has always stressed the importance of keeping scripted daytime drama alive and well and how it provides countless jobs and at least once upon a time when actors were more talented (my words not hers) it essentially underwrote the NY theatre scene. She may be a lil' cuckoo for Rococo puffs but her heart has been in the right place for a loooonnnng while now and she was encouraging us to write letters back when it may have helped (probably not but just sayin'). I'll always admire her for being one of the few soap star who had the courage to stick her neck out while still employed. And she did not see her tenure as some sort of safety net either as she knew what it was to be blacklisted.

I just applaud her for not shutting up because she "should". I respect people who say what they think. Who cares if it doesn't get her anywhere or gets her in trouble?

Of course, this attitude has gotten me into some pretty big trouble myself....I guess bigmouths just stick together.

The crazies will be boycotting her next..........

They already are. These people bring new definition to the term "rabid". It would serve them right if ABC said to hell with it and immediately stopped all production of AMC and OLTL. I shudder to think what they would do.
