I don't know...I don't think he was being sarcastic based on this SOD interview:

John-Paul Lavoisier Clarifies Statement

Quotes posted earlier today from John-Paul Lavoisier (Rex) to sod.com about OLTL/ABC's cancellation and ABC chief Brian Frons has set off a firestorm on the Internet. Here, the actor clarifies his statement: "The point wasn't to make anybody mad or anybody happy. The point was for everyone to interpret my comments in any way they want to, at least the last part of the quote. If you're not happy with my quote, think of it sarcastically. And if you're happy with my quote, take it literally. It's a neutral quote that can be taken in either way. But the rest of the quote can be taken literally. Farah [Fath, Gigi] and I are going to L.A. We are going to pound the pavement and I was very blessed to have worked on the final nine years and seven months of a long-running, great show that has a great family. As an actor, it gave me fun stuff to do. The first day that Brian Frons became president of ABC, he could have fired me right off the bat. I spent every day working for ABC under the possibility that Brian could have fired me. So I do thank Brian for not firing me during his reign. I thank him every day that he never made the decision to fire me and I do thank him for bringing on Farah. But everyone needs to understand that you can't bite the hand that feeds you. There is a lot of world left to live and a lot of jobs to still be had and you never know who's going to become the president of what. I don't want to burn future bridges with the professional people who will someday hire me for other jobs."

I can't believe that he had to state the obvious for some fans. The intent of his original statement was pretty clear. I bet when all is said that done a lot of these soap actors are relieved to get away from some of soap fans who overreact to every little thing.

Problem is he couldve did that privately instead of publically!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with him making that statement publicly. The world does not revolve around some soap fans obsession with disliking Brian Frons.

My dad was telling me that he read that the ABC Chicago affilate is worried about maintaining their #1 status this fall. They had been #1 since the 80's, but NBC is not far behind. They carry Oprah and are worried losing her and two soaps will give NBC the edge.

Hmm, ES said in a newsletter last year she's set for retirement. I don't think she's bitter at all. IMO, she's been prepared for a few years for the show to get cancelled and feels gifted it lasted this long.

I agree completely. remember OLTL was rumored to be cancelled a few years ago, it wasn't cancelled then because ABC decided against the replacement talkshow that had in development. then it was announced AMC moved to L.A. so that made a big statement as for ABC's intentions to "save" AMC and that left OLTL the next one to go when new programming was developed, the only problem of course was that AMC's ratings dropped and now we are left with the dual cancellation. As a OLTL fan I took those cancellation rumors a few years back very seriously and I always considered OLTL on borrowed time. Certainly when we all thought ABC was only cancelling one soap, I had hope OLTL would survive but that was only due to AMC's fall that allowed me to have any hope for OLTL as ABC made the decision to get rid of OLTL years ago, and I'm sure ES knew that and accepted that.

I won't spoil for those who havent seen todays OLTL episode: all I can say for the ending WOW! I think ES has one more Emmy win next year with whats happening if RC writes this out well, has lots of potential for a final Emmy for our beloved ES!!!!!

Is the Hoover stuff true?

Because if it is, it's pretty darn major!

Yeah, I was just going to ask that myself cause some people on twitter are saying that Hoover is pulling it's ads from ABC...

It sounds like it's actually posted on the Hoover FB page. I haven't looked yet, but if it's true, and right now it seems that way...I'm STUNNED. But in a good way!

Holy [!@#$%^&*]! I'm stunned, truly stunned that it actually worked. And yes, I realized that it's just one sponsor, but it's still ONE!

To all the loyal ABC soap fans,

I want you to know from me personally that we hear you loud and clear. My wife and mother are both passionate viewers of All My Children and One Life to Live, as are many of my colleagues here at Hoover. We were and are as disappointed with this news as you are.

In fact, we will discontinue our advertising with ABC this Friday, 4/22. We're making every attempt to pull our spots from these programs sooner.

Because we feel that’s not enough, we also want to help get your voice heard with ABC. So, we’ve set up a special email address, [email protected], to help pull together the mass emotional outpouring of support for our beloved ABC soaps and get it to our contacts at ABC. Please, send your emails to us at [email protected], and we’ll get every, single last one of them to ABC.

We’re 150% committed to doing what matters most to you – so if there’s anything else we can do to help or you have any ideas, please email this address, and we will respond to you personally.

Thank you for standing up for what matters to you! We need more of that in this world.
