Yeah.. I had that in my head too... imagine if The View was shelved too....

The View's not going anywhere. That show is the model for the future persona of ABC Daytime.

You'd think ONE LIFE was getting American Idol-sized numbers if you listened to some posters in this thread. The point is this: A 1.1 is a pathetic rating if you compare it to five years ago. Even if OLTL is showing some improvements in the ratings, their ratings are still amneic & terminal. And if OLTL was given an extra year or two on the air after AMC went off the air, their ratings would eventually sink lowers than AMC's ever did. OLTL scoring a few gains in the last month wouldn't have mattered in the end. ABC looked at the big picture when deciding to cancel OLTL and AMC: Soap ratings, on a whole, are on a gradual, steep decline that will only continue. They decided to make a drastic change instead of only delaying what would be inevitable anyway.

Thank you for saying that, and thank you for posting period! I have been waiting to see you chime in! Good to hear from you!

Both of these shows have died, time to put the rivalry to rest.

You really can't compare ratings from 5 years ago to now. Networks have lowered their standards since then. Go look at the ratings Desperate Housewives was pulling 5 years ago to now. ABC now wants cheaper programming and is hoping these new shows pull the same ratings as the soaps. Even if they do slightly worse, its still a win. Its all a risk ABC is willing to take.

"ABC is the new destination for daytime viewers to transform all areas of their lives, from relationships to family, food, style, home design, finance and more - The View, The Chew, The Revolution and General Hospital. Weekdays on ABC."

Got to love it!

GH now looks so out of place on that list. Moreso than Days looks on NBC.

General Hospital should just be renamed "The Mob".... it would fit into this "The" thing they are going for.

Primetime television is still hugely profitable and the programs can still sustain themselves. Daytime soap operas? Not so much.

Before I went to D.C., here are some of my Tweets you may have missed....

ErrolLewis Errol Lewis ABC has Lied to their Executive Producers, their Cast, their Crew...all the while signing deals for cooking shows. Gotta love Brian Frons14 Apr

ErrolLewis Errol Lewis Your soaps weren't canceled because of low ratings. It was all because of personal matters (not even business). Don't forget that!14 Apr

ErrolLewis Errol Lewis How's this for irony? As two soaps get canned (thanks Frons), @WWE officially lists themselves as a #soapopera entertainment company.14 Apr

And while I'm saddened that both AMC and OLTL are going off the air, I'm not surprised one bit. The only thing I'm angry with regarding this whole situation is how insensitive & blase Brian Frons has been about everything. That and THE CHEW is one of the most ridiculous names for a television show I've ever heard. If you needed to replace your soaps with a cooking/lifestyle show, couldn't you have come up with something at least a quarter decent? Jesus Christ!

So now it's official, huh?

Even when they were WWF back in the 80's, they were essentially a soap opera that had its storyline turning-points resting on the matches. The Macho Man Randy Savage / Miss Elizabeth / Hulk Hogan "love triangle" comes to mind...

If I'm not mistaken, WWE issued a press release on Wednesday stating they were removing the terms wrestling, sports entertainment, etc from their company profile.

BANNED TERMS

  • "Wrestling" or "Catch" is banned in favor of just calling the product "WWE"
  • "Catchers" or "Wrestlers" is banned in favor of "WWE Superstars"
  • "Athletes" or "Sportsmen" is banned in favor of "WWE Superstars" or "WWE Entertainers"
  • "Fight" is banned in favor of "Match" or "Bout"
  • "Fighting" is banned in favor of the term "Action"

IN NEW TERMS
  • WWE is pure entertainment
  • WWE is an action soap opera
  • WWE Superstars are entertainers with tremendous athletic prowess
