AMC and OLTL Canceled!

True, no more daily threads. Aren't some of the other threads not even weekly but monthly? I'd love to know how the site has done the past 30 days, four marathon threads sometimes 120+ lurkers deep, I mean, damn...

That has been a thing that has always bugged me as well....I think each soap should have a weekly discussion thread and be done it....but anyway.

Typically for SON, the ABC soaps have been a huge for us......so, yeah, we'll take a hit because of that.

I wish Errol were on right now....he could go into more detail.

:( Will you be leaving SON? Or will you come with us when OLTL moves to the.........Cancelled soap forum? :(

I don't know for sure....that's something I have been thinking about for awhile now (even before the cancellation news broke). I only watch OLTL so I don't know....

Scotty, Errol told me he signed a deal with the devil and we'll be struck down by his wittle pal if we try to leave. IJS.

I guess The Valley Inn fading from existence is kind of a commentary on how the true AMC vision has been slowly abandonned over the past 15 years and part of the reason we are here today discussing the show's demise.

The same is true for every show that has left and will leave. So many creative outlets eventually do this to themselves. I loved my crippled soaps though. I did. I do. Speaking of the Valley Inn, they did such a nice job with the St. Barts sets, I hope they can bring us back the Valley Inn one last time.

I want AMC to end with just another day in Pine Valley. I don't want anybody to leave or die. I want to have a sense that the drama will go on tomorrow even if there isn't a tomorrow to see.

Speaking of which, I like the idea of Eric being Erica's kidnapper and I'd erase McTavish's idiotic re-write here of Eric selling Erica to Richard. They can come full circle with Erica's daddy issues and have Eric move to Pine Valley. Who would play Eric?

Or the final scene will involve Erica in her penthouse. It would be a nice touch if the last segment could be the various families in their homes going through old photo albums. Chandlers (with Adam), Martins, Hubbards and Kane/Montgomery. Flashbacks as they reflect on specific photos. The final shot could be like the Kane women shot in the opening with Erica looking at the album alone, closing it and then putting it down on the table as she walks out of the room. The camera zooms in on the album and its the original All My Children book from the original opening

Love it.

or outright cancellation of ABC SID. Not announced yet, but its most likely a definite in a few months

I think it will just become "Soaps in Depth" a combination of the two magazines. Lots of jobs will be lost, but I fear it may be the only way to keep the magazine alive in any form.

Not the cancellation forum! It's the black hole!

I know :(...Hopefully the AMC/OLTL threads stay active. The ATWT and GL threads seemingly have waned a bit. But the AW thread still goes strong. And I think the RH and even EON threads are semi-regularly posted in.

I think SON will survive.

Well, what his name that runs the ABC SID Twitter page keeps telling fans that their mag. will be just fine.....

although, I personally don't see them lasting very much longer.

Well that's even more of an atrocity. All My Children was built upon class struggles, social diversity and so on and so on, but there were those events/storylines that always wove the canvas together so evenly.... and the backdrop was ALWAYS The Valley Inn. I guess The Valley Inn fading from existence is kind of a commentary on how the true AMC vision has been slowly abandonned over the past 15 years and part of the reason we are here today discussing the show's demise.

Spot on, Adam. Very, very true.

I remember trying out weekly threads during a low point when the show was sometimes only getting a couple of posts per day anyway.... but anytime I tried that the threads always seemed to turn into HUGE debates about why we were going the weekly route. As bad as AMC has been the last couple of years, the daily threads usually never fail to get at least 20 posts, usually they spill into multiple pages.

Don't leave us. We can keep OLTL alive through memories, ideas, fanfic, etc.

Also, my two cents:

Monthly thread is my favorite. It's more continuous. You can express your thoughts everyday as a story progresses. That allows for conversation to build up easier. Linked articles, pictures, etc. are easier to retrieve, and it clutters the board less.

But I don't have a problem with daily/weekly discussion. It doesn't bother me like it seems to bother some.

I wish it was on youtube, but one of the last real times the Valley Inn set was used for a huge gathering like the good old days was when Maria was presented with that posthumous award for Edmund when she went on a drunken tirade revealing to all how Edmund faked his paralysis, was going to divorce her and throw her out in the cold, etc. I think that happened around May sweeps of 2005.... I remember actually May of 2005 being the last real good month before the dark days of McTavish's 3rd regime began to really sink in. We were breaking into sperm banks by June I think?

After one last dynamite scene with Erica (like the Hollywood and Vine thing, or just her and her girls and *argh* Jack  at home) I'd like to dissolve to a room that looks straight out of the falling pictures opening... lingering shots of framed pics of beloved vets on the mantle and bookcases, landing on Agnes in a big comfy chair by the fire, afghan over her lap... she recites the poem in voice over while flipping through the scrapbook looking at memorable photos, the screen is in a half dissolve over a montage of the current cast members in silent beauty shots of them in couples/family situations, laughing, eating, kissing, holding up babies... the last photo in the album is of course Erica, Agnes looks directly into the camera and says the final line of the poem live ("You are All My Children"), shot of her hand closing scrapbook with title on cover.

I remember one summer they had a "Country Club" set. It sort of just disappeared after a while.

By the way, we all know the "My" is God, but we have living legend Agnes still with us so they migt as well run with it. We lost Helen Wagner when they had ample opportunity to work her into the finale considerably ahead of time.
