OLTL: Discussion for the week of February 7

I thought the Joey/Kelly scenes were boring and I felt like she was literally draining his life force - she was so damn fake when they tried to make her seem "quirky". The Ireland stuff was OK but not my taste, but it was popular early on. I enjoyed all the Cramer women together for the wedding, and I miss that family bond between them, but not Howarth phoning it in. The Alex scenes I'm as biased as I am with Kelly because I don't like most of her stories after she was paired with Asa.

1995 had been a big year in some places but there was also a real lack of energy and lack of focus in other stories, which was criticized by some of the fans and soap press at the time - the Angel Square story, for instance. Malone's time ground down to a halt. I think the Ireland stuff was mainly an attempt to get energy back.

It was right around this time that Griffith left as co-HW (I think in general people never even remember he was co HW though Malone has always given him his due) and soont he show became a mess. But as Malone admitted in some interview somewhere or other, Griffith is the one who really helped with pacing. I don't think much of Griffith's work without Malone but even in Malone's disastrous last return the show was MUCH better when Griffith was briefly HW again with him--they seem to need each other.

Griffith only seems to be remembered if it's for something bad (like his Y&R run). It's a shame, as his work at OLTL was very good.

It was--Malone's work befopre him was a bit of a mess (though they were trying some new things to be fair) and after him was MUCH more of a mess. And to a much lesser extent (in terms of little being all that good) the same was true when they came back--in fact during the pretty good (even with new Victor) early Storm of CHange stuff I believe Griffith was the sole writer with Malone as consultant until they got him back. He alo was one of the few writers who publicly said he left because Frons interfered too much, which musta taken guts. But yeah his other stuff hasn't been great (though often it's hard to know how much of that was due to him) and Malone's stuff without him hasn't been either.

is that the main reason why soapnet wont air old eps of shows because of theme song copyrights.... SMH

Here's an example for you about SoapNET and song copyrights. There was the Halloween episode with the Stephen Clay (well

Caleb) Halloween Party (during the story ark NAKED EYES). This was October 31, 2002. Livvie (or Olivia) was coming

to the party and outside bumped into a masked man (Caleb). Their eyes met and sparks flew. Of course, she was affected

by those eyes showing through the mask. They immediately began dancing a very sensual dance. The music played on the

ABC broadcast was "Flowers Become Screens" by Delirium. In the SoapNET broadcast that evening, the song was changed to

something else. I don't know what song played on the SoapNET broadcast. But, for some reason, they couldn't use the

original song from the ABC broadcast. Oh by the way, the scene ended with the mask taken off and it was Joshua, played

by Ian Buchanan. All illusions, of course. I loved Michael Easton and Kelly Monaco and their acting partnership and think

any other pairing of his on any show pales in comparison, there is no comparison, at least to me!

Such a shame bc I rememebr that song and scene perfectly. It was very sexual. Another exmaple is when Alcazar was killed and they played Murder By Numbers by Sting and the Police on ABC but some generic crap on SN

A little FYI - I've got an article written about this, but am awaiting a comment from OLTL, so it will probably be Monday before it will be posted. :)

Scotty, any idea why they listed Jean Passanante as the head writer and not Malone? He was definitely the HW for that eppy! In fact, I was so curious, I pulled out my DVD of the original episode. They didn't show credits that day, but they did on the following day's episode. MM was credited as the HW.

Woah! I didn't even notice that mistake. That's a pretty big mistake to have the wrong HW credited. Also, when was Gotlieb's last episode?

I have Susan Bedsow Horgan listed as EP for a November 30, 1995 episode.

I hope they didn't get the EP and HW wrong! LOL

Toups, that's what I was saying earlier! The fact that Linda was credited is partly what threw me timeline-wise because I was almost positive Susan was installed by that point.

BTW, when was Erika's 25th anniversary? Early '96? Susan was for a fact EP by then because she did the VO for Erika's on air tribute ("I'm Susan Bedsow-Horgan...").

I haden't even noticed that about the episode...that is interesting.

I can't remember what day of the week it fell on that year, but Erika's 25th anniversary date was March 17, 1996.

Question? Have you guys thought of doing daily threads? There's enough posts to do that it seems like.
