I was watching a few clips which had a rivalry between Cassandra and Traci, over Brad. They are fascinating to watch, as neither are the rival you'd expect for the other (Traci had Lauren, but Lauren was more volatile). Do you think the show should have kept this going longer?

Thanks again for sharing this Carl! :) I think these recaps cover the weeks of May 9-13 and May 16-20, 1988.

It's interesting how they developed Leanna as a character. They almost made it seem like she was suppose to be this dark character with a past connection to another character (Steve Lassiter) but somehow later they kept her for more comedic scenes.

Typical Condescending Victor being mad over Leanna calling of that dinner party.

So when exactly was Scott's first month on the show? i recall seeing an episode from April 4 1988. and he was caring for Nina after she had Phillip jr. but is there a synopses talking about Scott's first airdate?

I bet that scene with Jill being upset over becoming a grandmother was hysterical. Im surprised that she was actually still having an affair with David at this point. There was also an episode sometime later, where David tries to massage her, but she puts him on blast. i wonder why she started to have ill feeling towards him.

This whole thing with Brad makes him out to be more of a goldigger or whatever you wanna call it. I think it was always difficult to know whether he was the good guy or bad guy.

Thank for reading. As soon as I saw this I thought you'd want to see it too.

Were Marc and Jill ever together? Were they just trying to come up with a story for him? This is after the JoAnna relationship ended I think.

I wonder when they decided to move David away from Jill.

When did Ashley find out about Leanne's past with Steven and her attempts to kill Ashley?

It's odd to think they had Lisa and Leanna on around the same time, both somewhat similar, and one stayed only a few months while the other was around off and on for about 15 years.

I guess of all the Y&R psychos Leanna was the one whose portrayer didn't play it straight. It reminds me of when Lynn Herring (Lucy Coe on GH/PC) said she'd been told by Kin Shriner to add humor to her villain character, to increase her chances of staying on the show.

That's interesting about Leanna and Lisa being compared together and being on the show at the same time together. Personally I think they should have eventually brought Lisa back at some point to mess up Brad's life but I don't know how it would have fit in anywhere except for the early 00s or even when Sally Sussman Morina said they were intending to bring her back for Brad's big 2006 story before LML ran away with her Nazi relic garbage. Unless we insert Lisa snapping pictures of Brad and Lauren's affair instead of Sheila...

As for Leanna, well her crazy didn't seem to be as threatening as the others (Lisa, Sheila). I mean who would be seriously threatened by this:

Briefly. But not as a couple.

After Brenda left.

She didn't.

They weren't really similar.

Lisa was a spoiled rich girl cliche (that only became interesting after she went psycho).

Leanna was a totally different character (mainly due to Barbara Crampton).

Leanna was more like GH's Heather & OLTL's Alex (who she was the inspiration for).

So Ashley never did find out? Wow. I was never sure. Around the time Leanna was pursuing John - do you think they should have had him marry her instead of remarrying Jill? - I kept wondering if Ashley knew about the murder attempts. Clearly John didn't!

At the time it annoyed me but looking back I respect Bill Bell for leaving some secrets secret. Not only is it very true to life, but sometimes uncovering the secrets doesn't really lead to any good drama (like when they made Lily Malcolm's daughter).

Alex had a real edge early on which Leanna didn't seem to but I can see where she would inspire the character.

So Lisa wasn't psycho from the start?

That sister of the woman David killed, did he also kill her? I assume he did, but I don't remember. At the time I got this story so mixed up with the one a few years later with Michael Baldwin and the woman he married. I can never remember what happened to her.

Does anyone know when Y&R started being affected by the 88 strike (although I know people have said Y&R and B&B were barely affected)?

    • But that is pretty much situation normal for all soaps. They do not tend to continue to show things like surgical scars. They also play fast & loose with hospital procedures.
    • Trump and Netanyahu are giving "Let them eat cake".  And it's horrific. In 2013, Pope Francis removed a bishop from running the Limburg Germany diocese because he was constructing an opulent 31-million-euro building. Pope Francis stood up for the poor, the unhoused, the migrants of all faiths.  He lived simply and ordered that when he died, that he wished to be interred in a simple wooden coffin. I sincerely hope that the new pope Leo will follow Francis' example.
    • Co Sign!!!!   I have been watching the show regularly over the last few weeks and am pleasantly surprised by how much easier it is to watch each day. This definitely is confirmation for me that Paula and Jeanne wrote the stroke episodes, cause I felt the same way watching those. Could be more exciting for sure, but interactions now make more sense and everything seems to be a bit more character driven which is great. I will add though, there are still about 10 or so characters i'd love to see gone, and hope a few will exit in the future! Otherwise, happy with the changes so far.

    • There is suffering everywhere you look, says mother of emaciated baby girl trapped in Gaza https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/czrv5rl73zdo Quoting excerpts from BBC article: The baby's mother Najwa, 23, is changing Siwar's nappy. She weighs just over 2kg (4lb 6oz). A baby girl of five months should be around or over 6kg. "There was no food when I gave birth to her," says Najwa. "If I wanted to feed myself so I could breastfeed her, I had no nutrients to make my health better... She now only drinks formula milk, and we don't know how we'll be able to provide it for her." Israel has banned international journalists from entering Gaza to report independently. According to Siwar's doctor, Ziad al-Majaida, "Nothing enters through the borders, no milk, food or anything. This leads to big problems here for the kids. This baby needs a specific type of milk. It was available before, but because of the border closure, the stocks have run out for a while now." Since the beginning of the year, according to the UN, about 10,000 cases of acute malnutrition among children have been identified. Food prices have rocketed by as much as 1,400%. Charity kitchens, which have helped hundreds of thousands of Gazans, are shutting as food supplies run out. Twenty-five bakeries supported by the World Food Programme have been forced to close. Israel cut off all humanitarian aid and other supplies from entering Gaza on 2 March, and resumed its military offensive two weeks later The United Nations has said the Israeli blockade constitutes "a cruel collective punishment" on civilians. The UN's humanitarian director, former British diplomat Tom Fletcher, said that international law was unequivocal. "As the occupying power, Israel must allow humanitarian support in... Aid, and the civilian lives it saves, should never be a bargaining chip," he warned. From the BBC reporter: I put this point to Boaz Bismuth, a leading member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party. He (Bismuth) denies there is an aid crisis caused by the blockade. "There is food in Gaza... Israel wouldn't do such a restriction if the population didn't have food. I mean, I know my country perfectly well," he (Bismuth) said. BBC reporter: I put it to Bismuth that he was denying the evidence of people's eyes, that children were starving. "There are not starving children. I repeat again." He (Bismuth) said that there had been allegations months ago of famine, ethnic cleansing and genocide in Gaza "which was crap". ----  ----  ---- A UK-based advocacy group for Israel has the nerve to claim war may reduce obesity in Gaza https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/may/10/uk-lawyers-for-israel-condemned-over-claim-war-may-reduce-obesity-in-gaza
    • Joel Crothers would have been perfect as Owen (maybe because Margo wasn't too far off Denise). A shame he couldn't have played a dual role. Eliot did have more room to grow. I wonder if whatever allegedly happened with Denny Albee played a part in both their exits.

    • I remember Evie's last scene and it was in Justin Marler's house and she is telling them that Ben is asking for a reconciliation and she is going to join him. I always have wondered what Janet Grey did after leaving Guiding Light (I know from the interview with Kathleen Cullen that she did have a baby and they stayed in touch for awhile).
