I never really thought Drucilla was intended to be Amy's sister, but I *did* believe that Amy Lewis was intended to be the young upwardly mobile character in a triangle with Nathan and the street-wise Dru.  When Stephanie E. Williams opted to sign a contract with "General Hospital", it seemed that Olivia was created fairly quickly as the Dru rival.  Which worked out fine, of course.

Wow - I just watched the latest Innocent Years clip "M" https://youtu.be/mTFKabUT52E , from May '81, and Lorie is being a bit MUCH. Going on and on and on, in a florid, overwrought manner about the intense bond she has with Brooks and how they would just DIE to be separated from each other. She goes on for awhile as Stuart just stares at her, probably thinking "when are you going to shut up..."

I realized this would be right in the middle of the '81 TV Writer's Strike (April -July), so Bill Bell definitely did not write these scenes.

With Diane Jenkins back on modern y&r, I had no idea Susan Walters made appearences as late as 2010! As much as I like Walters, my favorite Alex Donnelly was recast due to age if I'm correct? If that was the case, then that sucks. Diane should have never been killed off. Maura West wasn't all that bad, but she might have been bettet in her own role.

Every time I've seen Alex Donnelley [sic] there is a visceral intensity to her anger or spite. You believe she's going to fùck someone up. It doesn't surprise me the network or EP might've preferred someone younger and/or less hard, but you don't get that everyday in daytime. I think Susan Walters is pretty good though.

These things are often superficial. AD is harder/stronger-featured in the face and has a more aggressive/masculine energy. Walters definitely looks younger. Plus, IIRC when AD got dumped her story was directly intersecting with MTS and a potential challenge to her character, which allegedly her husband the showrunner did not like. I believe it and it's been out there for years.

And with that music afterwards. Classic!

I wish Robert Townsend had produced more installments over the years. Can you imagine if he and Victoria Rowell had collaborated?!

That would have been too much black soap goodness.

OK. I can see that.
I ask because I figured the MTS factor was more likely a bigger one than age per se but while they are both beautiful women I can see how SW's more classical beauty might come off as younger or less harsh.
Point taken.

As a side note, Y&R casting team in the mid 90s had a thing for "handsome" women. Alex Donnelley returned in 1996 and they cast Sandra Nelson a few months later.
I also didn't know AD was born in Germany. Was she a military baby or a fellow immigrant like EB?

    • And then to break the trend, Thorsten Kaye (German-British) on OLTL.
    • @ReddFoxx I adored Eva and Leslie's fashions. Bringing back the 80s, LOL.

They're different characters, for sure. Dani is a "Have" but she still has the underdog, aspirational element, and yearning, for Independence. Similar to Erica Kane. When the show gets to digging into Anita's career; I want them to reveal more unresolved issues between the two. I would find it believable for someone like Dani to have grown up with resentment and complex issues being surrounded by BRILLIANCE from every corner.
    • So yesterday I wandered off on a tangent about Elvis Presley, off the top of my head. Probably no one cares but I want to correct facts. Elvis Presley did have a twin who was stillborn. They named him Jesse Garon Presley & in a level of their emotional life he was very real to Elvis's mama & to a lesser degree to Elvis himself. I will now return you to your regularly scheduled discussing post-Ron prattle.
    • They are the absolute stars for me. I’m delighted every day that my feelings about them from the special on the show, turned out to be that and so much more. I genuinely feel episodes are better when they’re featured. This cracked me the hell up especially with Leslie listening

. This episode was so good, I will be rewatching when I get home tonight. THIS was classic soap opera.
    • I can barely remember who was the person they tested her with for the AMC revival but I *do* remember kinda liking them together (anyone remember better?  lol)  But yes, I feel the same.  It might not help that when I became a regular viewer Tad was presumed dead and she was with Craig...  I do remember that my sister's best friend had been an AMC viewer with her mom and dad and that they were very excited that Tad was returning... OK I instantly remembered that.  And now once again I'm sad about what coulda been with the reboot.
    • Well, that is weird. I do not see him but I only have him on Ignore on 2 accounts.
    • In the preview for the show back in February on Entertainment Tonight, Jeresa the costume designer was specific about each character's economic background, personality, and the character's personal fashion preferences.  Very much about the characters and not the actors. She said Eva is a thrifter, so her normal daily wardrobe would be something from a thrift store, and if BTG buys it new, they intentionally make it look used. So what you said fits about the type of thing a lower income person would buy for a fancy event.
    • As hard as it is for me to imagine anyone but Don Stewart as Mike Bauer...I dunno...maybe someone like "Adam-12"'s Kent McCord?  Or Robert Hogan?
    • Yep I don't hate Javi and then he's macking on Leo and I'm done with him. Leo is a failure who needs to go away   I am bracing myself for Alex reading the manuscript and imagining him and Stephanie as the main characters, because this couple has literally nothing else to do until Joy comes back showing
