The show was turning around a little at that time, although that went to pieces by spring '97 when they fired Allyson Rice Taylor and had that bizarre James return. This episode was a little sparse but I did enjoy it. This was right after Valente had been fired so they seemed to be trying to cram in as many family references as possible - I didn't know they even mentioned BIanca by this time. I also liked the scenes with Bob and Nancy. Helen Wagner was so underrated. The Kasnoffs were just dull to me but I did like how they used Mark and Ben to show some of the everyday Christmas activities like the football game.

Dolan started in December 1989.

They really did a number on Diego didn't they? From Sam's sexy therapist to Emily's rapist to the international terrorist who "murdered" Damian in a span of a year. I have some Feb 97 eps of the CBS soaps around the time of Diego's murder and during a "Men of CBS Daytime" promo a shirtless Pickett is featured as ATWT's hottie. Ick.

This was right before Holden's return which if I recall right was New Year's '97. Paul and Sara don't seem too bad here, and I liked the little bit at the end there with Connor and Kirk.

Bianca got a mention later on by way of James Stenbeck when confronting Lucinda upon his return.

What did they say about her then? All that ham is all I remember.

They never had any idea what to do with Diego. Only a month or two into his tenure was when he was revealed as having the affair with Emily, and being Umberto. I can't remember if viewers already knew by then that he'd caused the plane crash. Yet they were still setting up the Lily/Diego romance. I guess Mike eventually would have saved her. I wonder if the show would have gone with Mike/Lily if Shawn Christian hadn't left.

I liked that with Connor and Kirk too (although at first I thought someone was going to kill him!).

Paul and Sara both just seem dull and superfluous. I never understood why Sara was supposed to be so dull.

All these years later and I still don't believe John and Barbara would be attracted to each other.

I remember the Diego character not being popular at all with fans. That's why they did the 180 and made him evil character. I wasnt a fan of the character so it didnt bother me.

Sarah was boring just like her brothers....lol...but I have to say I loved John Howard as Paul....or model Paul as he was called.

I never cared for John and Barbara as a couple but its much better than the awful Henry gay Barbara pairing...ugh......lol

Eh, I didn't care much for John and Barbara either I think the pairing grew from their rescue of Lisa from Martin Chedwyn in Hong Kong. I remember feeling sorry for Lisa when she walked in on them sharing an intimate moment. The John Dixon Jr. story was pretty stark I have to wonder if this is why CZP said she felt revitalized when Sheffer took over and later on with her pairing with Henry.

In spite of the negative reception and some pretty bad performances, both Bronson Picket and Rosalyn Sanchez both grew after their ATWT roles to have some success in primetime and cable.

Mike and Lily was a go until Hensley's return. Funny I've been rewatching Season 1 of Charmed and Shawn Christian played one of Piper's pre-Leo boyfriends for a few episodes and he was horrific, pretty much giving the same performance he did on ATWT and on Days now.

Me neither. I remember reading story synopses from the early '70's that mention their dating (briefly, before Barbara left town) and thinking, "Huh? Really?".

    • I don't think so, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was Dumas this whole time.
    • Tamara Tunie was serving up grand dame diva fierceness.
    • Nick told Victoria that he and Sharon had married in England.  Victoria was shocked.  Then she realized he was kidding.  He confirmed it was a joke and they're platonic. I don't even know what to say about that.
    • It's funny you say that because part of the entertainment of the trials on the show are all the day players who come on as witnesses and jurors.  I'm certain it was like the Law and Order of its time. It employed so many New York actors, that if you look close enough, there's usually someone vaguely recognizable in the courtroom.
    • I will defend Dante.  People already suspect he may be a bit unstable from time to time (from his time as a prisoner).  And, he's taking care of other people's kids from time to time.  So, he has reason to be cautious with those in his care.
    • Josh continues to try and milk Abbott/Newman rivalry. First it was Billy/Victoria, then Kyle/Summer, then Noah/Allie (that worked out well) and now Kyle/Claire. Do we have any inkling when Billy Flynn will arrive and who he will play? I'm sure Cole's illness will mostly play offscreen. What's in store for Nick and Sharon? Is it time to put them back together? I can't see any other romantic options. Nick has no children on the canvas to play off, as Christian is never seen. Sharon has only Mariah onscreen.
    • I would appreciate (if they're not coming), for future scripts to refer to them by their iconic hairdos.  For example, if Hope needs to call Chelsea because Bo has Sepsis, I'd like Shawn-D to say, "My Mom called Chelsea (the one with the sassy short black hair) for an update." Also, new rule, if Melanie does return, she needs to dye her hair back to red.  I googled who she was five times during Victor's funeral.

    • Broderick, thank you for all of the info [I edited for space]. I am so grateful for everyone filling in the blanks for me. I suspected the Nora/Eliot scene was very important and it was setting something up but I didn't know what. Can't wait to see it play out. The two actors had such a great back and forth. I should have made the Paige/Patty Hearst connection. I thought Paige was in love with Brian from the first episode I watched but it seemed as if they were brother and sister. Steve kept being affectionate with her so I assumed he was the love interest. Then she was affectionate with someone else and well..she's a very busy woman. I can't wait to see Frances Fisher show up. (I'm trying to be vague because I don't know what would be a spoiler in this storyline) Now it makes sense why Draper would be upset. I didn't get the whole background of why he didn't go to NY. I'm a sucker for good acting, so I might still side with April and Margo, if the writers don't give Draper more to do besides yelling.  He had more chemistry with Logan, but I know that's not happening.  Something else I noticed: the show really takes care with even the smallest parts. The acting is superb. Too often, I noticed on older soaps they don't take care with the recurring or day players (Ryan's Hope was so bad with this that I couldn't make it through some episodes). It's only been six episodes, but so far, the casting department was spot on.
    • I thought Dante was overreacting.  Gio made some mistakes but he's young and he tried.  It's not like he dragged two 14 years to a party and made them get blackout drunk.  Dante can have the initial upset reaction, but to go on and on was a bit much.
    • His (adoptive) nieces.  Chelsea and Stephanie.  I think Abby was involved too, but I am not sure if they are related lol.
