Was Scotty Baldwin almost on LOVING?

I was looking through a TV Guide from mid-94, with Michael Logan addressing rumors. Several involved LOVING. One was that Debbi Morgan was going to be killed off to fulfill the prophecy of Ava's Uncle Harry. They said this would have happened if Debbi hadn't re-signed her contract.

I'd heard about that one, but I hadn't heard the one about Kin Shriner joining the show as Scott. Logan said that apparently Kin DID want to join the show, but the producers said he wasn't needed or it wasn't a good idea.

Can you imagine how different those last few years of Loving might have been if he'd been there? I wonder if he would have gone to The City, and if this also would have affected plans for PC. Would they have been more likely to keep The City around and just bring in a few other GH characters?

Corinth has come up on OLTL a number of times the past few years--not on AMC in a while though (I know it would never ever have happened but how cool would it have been to have Dinah Lee and Hannah come to Myrtle's funeral a couple of years back)

Carl this was news to me... I have to say as much as I loved Morgan Fairchild on The City, the show really came into its own when Tracy joined--and though at the time i didn't know her from GH, she quickly became a fave. (and I totally forgot about Ava's uncle's prophecy)

I had never heard the Scotty Baldwin rumor either!

The Ava's uncle's prophecy story kinda fizzled. Weren't they going to kill off Dinah Lee when Jessica Collins left but then decided to recast (poorly) at the last minute and kill Buck's newfound daughter Janie?

She did look porn starish but I liked her too. It was a kinda porn star with a heart of gold character anyway lol.

Tricia and Trucker were MASSIVE--SOD rarely paid any real attention to Loving outside the synopsises, yet they featured them an awful lot. (and I admit, while Trucker wasn't a great actor--by no means the worst, but--I did think he was the hottest of the soap studs at the time and they were a gorgeous couple--I think he left acting soon after). Trucker and Dinah lee never really caught on IMHO. Ido remember the recast but I think she left so soon simply because she didn't work.

I wonder if they ever thought about bringing Tricia to The City. I sorta hated her open ending, since I was so invested in her,..

I also hated how open ended Tricia's original exit was. She's dead but she's really alive, amnesiac in Europe. It took so long before they ever got back to her and that was only bc the show was ending and they never did anything wtih her after

The short lived Dinah Lee recast was Elizabeth Mitchell, who kind of annoys me (mostly because of her horribly written role on ER), but who has gone on to a lot of primetime success.

I think he was a boxing manager and worked with Tracy didn't he?

I didn't know that. That's really interesting. I could have definitely seen Scott on Loving...And he would have probably crossed over to The City, or died, or just went back to GH.

But if he went to the City, they might have been more invested in it. I mean having 2 GH characters on there in 1996, it would be a cheaper way to do a "spinoff" of GH, since the show already existed. So PC might not have existed at all....

Lucy and Kevin may have also ended up on The City, or stayed on GH...And could still be there today.

It could have been really cool. Hmm.

    • This is (maybe) overly simplistic and nonsoapy, but Doug needs to go to Gamblers Anonymous, to deal with the addictive neurological excitement hits that gambling gives him - and which control his life. Vanessa needs to go to therapy to find ways to remain healthfully lusty and sex-positive, but to stay away from anyone who would demean her.
    • YT keeps commending GL clips to me. I discovered Kathleen Cullen was on in Christmas 1987. Was there any talk of making it permanent  or was this just a special visit? I wish they had made the visit permanent. I liked her chemistry with Grant Aleksander.
    • I'm not sure it's as unpopular as you think.  I just think the show knew they were in a bind, and needed a proven couple for the viewers to invest in. Trying to reunite Vanessa and Ross had just failed in 87. I don't think Ed and Holly's affair was well received, as Simon and Garrett had a brother/sister chemistry. Enter Billy and Vanessa, who give you history and an out not to try and do a Josh/Reva/Billy triangle, which would've really wrecked the relationship between Josh and Billy. I'd have been ok with trying Vanessa/Ross again, and doing a Vanessa/Ross/Holly/Billy quad for a while. I hated Nadine. HATED. She had to be the most insufferable also-ran before ATWT's Julia Lindsay. This is where I wish I knew Roger's history better.

    • GROSS. Michael Swan was hot back in his ATWT days. Now he's 76 and WAY past his hot years.
    • Since she kidnapped, locked up and tried to kill her father's wife I'd say that is still a pretty big deal
    • I'm good with the gushing, too. There aren't many soap icons like John Black, and that's important to celebrate and remember. And yes, life does go on for other characters, but as they say, timing is everything. Going sky diving the day before the funeral? And during a week of shows that were so powerful emotionally? No.
    • No. There might have been a slight pause for dramatic effect after his "death," but pretty soon after they showed him in France getting plastic surgery and getting involved with his doctor, then planning with her to bring Christina to France. (She thought he had good reason to do it; she wasn't a bad person or anything). Now that I think of it, there must have been some kind of pause before that, during the 70s. Rita was accused of killing a private patient for an inheritance when she lived in Texas. Part of the backstory was that Roger had been there, too. Not sure exactly when or how long that was.
