Robin Strasser. Robin was raised in part by her mother's husband, African American artist Roy DeCarava. Robin says that given her dark features, she often heard whispers when walking down the street with her mother and stepfather, people commenting on her "biracial" looks.

Name the character that spent the longest time off the canvas before returning?

If we were including UK soaps, the answer would be Philip Lowrie (Dennis Tanner, Coronation Street), who left in the 60's and returned a couple years ago.

US wise, the only one I can think of right now is Jean Bruce Scott (Jessica Fallon, Days of Our Lives), who left in 1982 and returned for a brief stint last year, making that a 30 year span.

Jessica's return set a record. Before that the longest time between stints belonged to Meta on Guiding Light and Anna on Days. Both were off their shows for around 22 years.
