Days: 100 greatest characters

Well the person said "The list isn't perfect, though the 60s and 70s are definitely represented, I'm sure there's a tendency to include more 80s-00s characters because I'm simply more fmailiar with them. But I did my best, and I apologize if there's any I forgot"

Oh. Well I've watched ATWT from 2000-2010, and sporadically in the 90s. Maybe I should put out a list of the best characters of all-time, since I've watched 12 out of the 53 years it's been on the air, then I'm perfectly qualified. And I'll preface it by saying that I don't know sh!t about the 50s, 60s, 70s, & 80s, which should make everything okay and any long-time viewer who criticizes me look like a jerk.

Whether or not we agree with ranking, I've got to say the poster does justify their choices and has put a lot into it. Every one of these lists would be different if we were doing it.

I'm enjoying the "blast from the past' with a few characters. It's a good jog for the memory, and with so few spots left I'm intrigued where my favourites rank in their estimation. On my list Maggie would be #2, giving Alice the #1 position for a variety of reasons that include respect, longevity and long-term involvement in a whole host of stories.

I like the summaries & the histories, but there is NO justifying Lucas Roberts at #21, with Dr. Neil Curtis nowhere to be seen (near the top 20).

But if you read the disclaimer, the writer of that list acknowledged that they don't have as strong an affiliation with the 80's as they do the 90's. Neil Curtis fizzled out as a character with the end of Liz Chandler, and was filler after that. Unless you were watching 30 years ago you'd never know he cut a significant figure once upon a moon.

Actually, let's just tweak something.

1.) Tom Horton

2.) Alice Horton

There... keep going.

I don't agree with that at all. Actually, there is a lot of this list which I strongly disagree with. However, it's cool that this person put this together and their character descriptions are pretty spot on. For me, it would be ...

1) Julie

2) Marlena

Well of course you can have a show without Tom and Alice, the other shows have done quite well, and now DAYS is going to move forward without them like all the rest of the shows that no longer have original cast members, but - you hear Mac's voice every day in the opening. Tom and Alice did it first, and they did it best. They grounded the rest of the show, and the Hortons - DAYS' first family - is totally their legacy. Tom and Alice are more than 1 and 2 in importance, they're 1 and 2 chronologically. They are where it started. Their passing is the end of an era, and a generation for the show. I think they're incredibly important. However, as far as "greatest" characters, might be different. Though if we were debating "important" it'd be hard to place them anywhere but 1&2.

Tom and Alice should be top 5, but Julie and Marlena have been far more important characters than those two. Not to discredit what they have done for DAYS, but Julie and Marlena are DAYS for most people.

Top 5 IMO:

1. Julie

2. Marlena

3. Alice

4. Hope

5. Tom

I've never been crazy about either, but I agree that Julie and Marlena if not #1&2 will certainly be in the top five along with John. Tom had his impact long before the person writing the list started watching, and much of Alice's importance had been muted by then also.

It will be interesting to see who they do give #1 to. Most lists fall back on the emotionally expected (like the highly overrated and useless LnL for #1 of any given Best Of list), so will it be the emotional Alice or the significant someone else.....

How about we start compiling a list of the top 45 characters in honor of the 45th anniversary.

Ok.

1. Katie Peretti

2. Mike Kasnoff

3. Carly Tenney

4. Janet Ciccone

5. Jack Snyder\

6.Chris Hughes

Always a legacy character, but he wasn't truly defined until the 14th Chris, Daniel Cosgrove, stepped into the role. Finally, we have a Hughes who is funny, quirky, and easily obsessed with women. Never saw it coming, when he hit his Katie with his car his first day back on the show!..............

55. Margo Hughes

Really, I only liked her when the TRUE Margo, Glynnis O'Connor, played the part................................................

......69.Susan Stewart..................

74. Doug Cummings..........................................................

82. Kim Hughes.....................................................................................

99. Lisa Grimaldi

She's an old bag with a mole. She likes to gossip about people. But she's a really good grandmother & great at dispensing out advice. She's the kind of woman that attends Baptist church every Sunday & bakes cookies for the whole congregation. She reminds me of something out of Steel Magnolias.

I hope you meant that because Doug should have been higher, because he should. Doug was a GREAT character in the 70s, quite the original, and managed some stability in the 80s, unlike many of his contemporaries. He's not just some old coot that sings "Oh Danny Boy" at funerals.
