But he was asked about his gut feeling on the future of OLTL and he clearly feels much better about it. The only thing that would make him feel more optimistic about OLTL would be one of his moles telling that AMC is being targeted, no? Whatever happens with DOOL and the CBS shows doesn't impact OLTL's odds at ABC.

Maybe he feels that this whole cutting 20 episodes thing ABC is doing means that all 3 ABC soaps are safe for a minute, and that DAYS (I personally think B&B ) could go before ABC finally decides to can it.

I do want OLTL to outlive AMC, but not because I am a crazy fanboy. I just enjoy the show more and love its vibe, and want it to survive.

I feel the same way. Pratt ruined AMC for me. I have to leave my beloved Angie and Jessie behind. I guess I'm one of those who tuned and has no plans to return. Also, they moved to show to LA and I'm a stone cold Manhattanite and as trifling as it may sound, I won't forgive ABC for taking away that little piece of NY.

Uggh, perish the thought, I don't need those damn kids stinking up my AMC.

You think it was easier telling Susan Lucci and David Canary they had to switch coasts?

So true.

As fangirlish as it may sound I still think ABC is relativley dedicated to all their soaps, maybe some more than others but I honestly don't think they are waiting for an excuse to cancel any of their soaps unlike the other networks.

AMC went down in the rating after that awful Rylee promo, I'm not surprised, here's hoping they bounce right back up next week.

I'm still not sure what these measurements mean. The implied definition of unique viewers would seem to be number of individuals watching. That's rather self-explanatory. The streams, however, could include full episodes, commercials, or any other special video that is featured on NBC.com under the Days title. So I don't think we can infer that 5 million episodes of Days were viewed. As internet viewing becomes more prevelant (especially when SoapNet leaves the air) it'll be nice to have firmer definitions of what these terms mean exactly, and whether they make any difference at all when it comes to Days' bottom-line.

I don't know the difference between a 'unique' and 'total' hit except for unique brings in more money. Nevertheless, over 12 million for Y&R is a huge number and better than the ranking of any soap back in the supposed heyday of daytime TV in the 1980's--add that to the shows weekly 5 million and you have close to 17 million Americans viewing some or part of a soap! Umm, this means the genre is still popular; however, no one has mastered a solid means for online advert profit. I'm guessing cancelled World Turns must have been in the top 20 given rankings for the other soaps. With so many people working funky schedules, online TV is the future. We will eventually be downloading our shows like music at the iTunes Store. I love the idea of building my own primetime minus DVR or TiVo.

I don't know which, AMC or OLTL, is more 'popular' given the fact that AMC is tanking in the ratings. Going by rank, OLTL must have a bit more street cred these days. Also, popularity will vary with age and younger people drift towards One Life. The 1.6 last week was GL kind of ugly but the demos stay so solid while, post Pratt, AMC drifts downward.

I still wish that CBS would send their remaining soaps to CW for a four day a week prime time run. I'll bet almost anything that the ratings would go up with Y&R getting atleast 7 million viewers. The future of daytime is primetime. Even Oprah is dropping and I honestly don't think it has to do with talk show fatigue.

I'd love to see what unemployed people in this recession are watching during their days off. I'm willing to bet soaps top.

    • John loved Sami unconditionally and forever
    • On May 27, Johnny spoke to Sami on the phone, and learned that Sami and Sydney were trying to fly in from Sicily, but were stopped by a volcanic eruption because the ash had grounded all the planes. As discussed on the May thread, ash from Mt. Etna in Sicily caused planes to be grounded in summer 2024, so Cwikly/Ford would have known that.  (I just learned that Mt. Etna has been considered "active" with intermittent activity since 2022, including February, April, and May 2025.) Friday May 30, Will said that Sami and Sydney found another flight and will be here soon. Well, Sami and Sydney got out just in time, because … There was (and still is ongoing) a huge eruption of Mt. Etna that began very early Monday morning June 2 Italy time (which would be Sunday night June 1st Chicago time) and a volcanic ash plume had reached an altitude of around 6,400 metres (around 3 or 4 miles high) https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/mount-etna-eruption-volcano-smoke-lava-live-updates-b2761911.html
    • Agree to disagree. Like first, love second. OH, agree, agree, agree! Legendary Featherstone, you're not dressing this one well at all. Petite woman with ample bosom, wrong clothes = awful  matronly looking ugh. I'm sorry but I felt hit over the head with everything each of them thought & felt for about 6 more days than I felt I had signed on for.  I don't know you well enough to know if you will know when I'm teasing, so I've just warned you that I am when I say, I hate for you that you haven't actually met Danielle before. LOL. To me it was just a natural take.  I have no problem going back & forth between those two focal sites. But, I am certainly aware that early on I had an expectation of being really into their having 27 sets & that has definitely not been the realization. And, yes, for now, Frank is still heads above any & all others with us & sets IMO.  Huh? Guza gone. I have it in my head that he was only willing to come out of retirement (and presumed mourning) for a "certain amount of time" to help get this new creature launched, but had no desire to stay & so was one of the "over-staffed intentionally" that we were told about. Of course there's been no official word on the circumstances of his leaving.  But, you might mean go with Guza as in a style, if so, ignore the last para.

    • I'm so pleased we have such fan engagement about Dani. Reminds me of some other soap characters. I think it's because they are "polarizers" which is a word I may have just made up. They are polarizing on their shows to other characters & to story & they are polarizing in the audience as fans seem to have extreme reactions to them, love & hate, not middling neutrality, ya know? Well, it's a theory.  To me the human being you seek has been amply shown especially to two people & both more or less recently. Her sister bond with Nicole, whoa, has knocked me back & blown me away. And, with Chelsea, over her budding sexual identity and awareness. She gathered instantly that something was up with that daughter & was laser focused on her for several scenes. Then, for a third, she & Pamela have finally, also recently, been so real & genuine & authentic.
    • Thanks, Paul, I did not know about his interest in the comedic elements or that he was one of our many people who came from the network! I have always liked Marlena de la Croix's writing, which is not to say I 100% agree with her. She's been a member of my FB soap group for a good long time & she actually posts, which I love. Recently I posted about an e-copy of Robert LaGuardia's SOAP WORLD that is free to borrow like a library e-book but on the Internet Archive site & I posted that at the time of their publications, all of his soap opera books were the gold standard.  She immediately posted about "Bob" who was her close friend & how much she still misses him to this day & that he loved to talk soaps & was also a nice guy, etc. which I was over the moon to have her share about the author & his time etc. like that!!!
    • Just more RTD ego trips, seemingly his main reason for coming back.
    • Thanks @Paul Raven  That's a lovely writeup. Do fans feel it was warranted?
