Y&R Discussion for week of June 28

And what's worse is the constant sucking up certain actors do in the media even though they know Y&R is in horrible shape.

Instead of being honest about the abysmal state of Y&R actors like Bergman & Bregman give flowery interviews that are more about them staying frontburner than making any real creative change occur.

And the show is apparently getting its budget slashed again. So, people can brag about how well Y&R is holding up in the ratings, but it obviously doesn't matter to CBS/Sony if they let the show carry on in such a disastrous creative state and slash its budget on top of it.

I don't think even cancellation is out of the picture, I give this show 4 years tops more on the air. CBS knows it can air a talk show or game show for much cheaper than the licensing fees they pay for Y&R and B&B. It doesn't matter if they're the #1 or #2 soap, they aren't profitable to CBS anymore, and CBS has no real incentive to keep them because they don't own them.

What's more, people go on and on about their incredible 18-49 demos and how they're contantly #1 ih that category. If you look closely at their numbers, though, their demos aren't really that impressive. The show does almost double the HH numbers of what is usually its closest demo competitor--GH--yet its demos aren't that far ahead of GH's. That tells me that a huge bulk of their audience is over 49, which can't be good news for anyone. Do we know what the age of their average viewer is? I remember seeing a breakdown of the ABC shows somewhere (this board?) a little while back, and they had something like GH at 50, OLTL as 51, and AMC at 53.

Especially with the contempt TPTB constantly direct toward both the 50+ actors & audience.

Normally I'm bored with Emily, but I do like her in scenes with her brother. I also liked the scenes with Paul and Patty.

Tomorrow there is going to be a Nina sighting!

Apparently Neil is going to break up with Ashley to reassess his priorities and Jeffrey buys Indigo.

In an interview that DG gave he said that he would be connecting with a woman but that it would not be in a sexual nature.

the woman is going to be Malcolm's fiance.

They aren't going to let Cane connect with that

Zulu sista. She just too dark. & too womanly for Cane

. To bad that DG is stuck with child bride & the babies.

Peter Bergman can be somewhat passive-aggressive. He lauds the show while giving little digs. I specifically remember him doing this in interviews where he discussed GhostJohn and Patty/Emily/Lauren/Sarah. If I were him, I'd be more than a little worried. He's up there in age, his leading lady's been fired, the feud with Victor is beyond played out, and he's essentially been eclipsed by Billy Miller as the central male Abbott. He just seems increasingly irrelevant. He costs a pretty penny, and with more budget cuts coming, he could be on the chopping block.

Peter Bergman will probably stay on to babysit Phyllis after she and Nick eventually divorce. Unless they think he's too old for her.

There is no such thing as a central male Abbott at this point. The family is dead.

I do agree that Bergman is probably on the way out. The main reason he's there now is to make Victor look good. If they can find someone else to do that, like Tucker, then there won't be any use for Jack.

Has anyone else read that Clementine Ford is out and I don't mean of the closet? Apparently this is from CBS SID, but I haven't heard much about it anywhere else.

Sean Kanan is coming back to Y&R, and ALOT of people are saying they are going for a Phyliss/Deacon pairing

I read that his visit is only for 3 or 4 episodes, but it wouldn't surprise me if they did that.

Stafford said in an interview that she and Sean shot scenes where they made out. It was in the Suds Report from last Friday. It might not be a full on romantic pairing, but I think if they get a good reaction they will bring on Deacon full time

I also checked CBS SID Breaking News section and it said nothing about Clementine Ford being out, but if the show is undergoing this summer bloodbath, then she is a logical choice.

The bloodbath should start with Lily. I mean she already at death door. All death have to do is open it's door.

I agree. It is a damn shame that this actress sucks so bad, that I am wishing her character just dies of cancer. Not exactly the type of reaction CK was going for.

And what's even worse is that if she went , 99.9% of the Winters' airtime would be gone also.
