Catherine Hickland was seriously considered for a Laura recast when GF left in 1981

Melody Thomas Scott was considered as a Heather Webber recast back in the late 90's when it looked like she wouldnt renew at Y&R

GL seriously considered recasting Roger Thorpe in 2002 when Jona collins came as Alex. JC even mentioned it in interviews. I dont remember any actors being named as potential recasts though

Days passed on Kevin Costner in the 70's & Johnny Depp did not get the soap gig he auditioned for (Prior to 1986) and JD says he would have loved to have the role (This was an interview with PC's Sarah Aldrich, who had done a film with JD & talked soaps with him). Julia Barr made it sound like she was let go by Ryan's Hope and then auditioned and hired by AMC.

Julia's version fits with what soap magazines reported at the time - - that the show wanted to trim the cast and refocus on Ryan/Coleridge stories

WE LOVE SOAPS TV: Then you got cast in RYAN'S HOPE [as Serena 'Reenie' Szabo]. What do you remember about that stint?

Julia Barr: It was supposed to be a two year contract. But they sort of redefined what they wanted their storylines to be and I guess they didn't want a criminal element. I was brought in as the daughter of a mafia guy so they ended that story after six months. We all went out as a group including Michael Fairman (Nick) who played my father. My first love on the show was played by Justin Deas (Bucky).

WE LOVE SOAPS TV: It actually worked out for the best for you because you landed on ALL MY CHILDREN shortly after that.

Julia Barr:Right. They were replacing and aging up the current actress who was playing Brooke (Elissa Leeds). But I didn't know I was auditioning for that role at first. I auditioned with Daren Kelly who played the boy next door, Dan Kennicott, who my character abused and teased regularly. I didn't know who I was playing except some girl, and I thought I gave a very bad audition. I didn't expect to hear from them but I think they had already seen me on air on RYAN'S HOPE, so the bad audition didn't count that much against me

That's funny. In an interview, I think it was also with welovesoaps, Claire stated that Agnes wanted Julia for Brooke. Claire was very diplomatic about it, but she did make is sound like some power play on Agnes's part. Maybe she just remembers things differently.
