Lifetime Achievement Emmy To Agnes Nixon

Daytime legend Agnes Nixon, creator/head writer of ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE, co-creator/head writer of LOVING and head writer of GUIDING LIGHT and ANOTHER WORLD, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Emmy at the 37th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. The awards will be telecast on June 27 from Las Vegas on CBS.

Hopefully, they give a great tribute to Agnes!

I was confused because I thought she had already received a similar award from NATAS back in the 80s. It was called the Trustees Award. But according to wikipedia, that award is for continued excellence. So this Lifetime Achievement Award is WAY WAY WAY WAY WAYYYYYY overdue.

Congratulations Agnes!

I'd rather see Albert Wolsky accept it in honor of his late partner, James Mitchell (Palmer, AMC; Julian, WHERE THE HEART IS; et al).

Well, now I have to watch the awards for the first time a few years. I can't wait to see the tribute to Agnes!

I did more research on the Trustees Award that Agnes received in 1981. NATAS states:

The Trustees Awards is the highest honor that the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences bestows on an individual.

So, the Lifetime Achievement Award isn't the highest honor, but it's an honor in itself.

If that's the case, then Oprah shouldn't have removed herself for consideration, because she has yet to receive the Trustees Award.

This was tweeted today by soap journalist Deanna Barnert:

heard the Daytime Emmys were considering honoring Agnes Nixon w/out calling the icon to the stage. Luckily, someone put the kibosh on that!

Whoever that someone was, thank goodness they fixed it.

Well, maybe they were going to just have her be on stage right out of a clip package because she does have trouble walking. I can see them doing that.

Agnes was probably afraid to come onstage, as any second too long would cause Dick Clark to have her tasered.

 Dick Clark isn't even involved in the show this year.

I just can't convince myself of that. I have this awful vision of Agnes trying to thank people and Dick motions his flunky Ryan Seacrest to get out the brass knuckles.

I remember when Bill Bell was given the Lifetime Achievement Award. He was talking for at least 15 minutes. It was painful.

Not counting his introduction, his actual speech was less than 5 minutes...

Is that really the whole clip? Wow, I must've had a short attention span back then, because it felt like 15 mintues to me.

I am so glad he won before Agnes. ^_^

Well Agnes won the Trustees Award which is a higher honor that Bell never received. <_<

Though I'm not sure why they're going backwards and giving her this award 20 years later.
