There were so many wonderful episodes and characters. A truly amazing ensemble from beginning to end. There are very few episodes I don't enjoy.

My favorite episode was when Phyllis tried to find a job (her last until her cameo in the finale), and the one where Rhoda lost a lot of weight and entered the department store beauty pageant ("I won, Cookie!").

I often thought of moments, not episodes, with this show, so a few of my favorite moments:

- Ted Baxter rushing through his broadcasting school anthem

- Georgette singing Steam Heat

- Mary and Bess bonding while they were running around Minneapolis

- Mary's aunt and Lou saying goodbye, then Lou gets drunk and tearfully admits, "I loved that woman."

- Ted finally telling Georgette that he "l-l-lUGHves her."

- Mary having to take over for Lou and, to the shock of everyone, having the guts to fire Ted

- Phyllis talking about her in-laws giving her the evil eye and muttering about her in Swedish

- Rhoda literally pouring food down her throat as what she thought was her date shows up with his hot wife

- Sue Ann's desperate quest to bed Lou, finally ending when everyone came into her love grotto, complete with vibrating bed

The impact MTM made on my life when I was in junior high and watching the reruns every weeknight on Nick-at-Nite is immeasurable. A smart, funny, classy show that never pandered to the so-called "lowest common denominator" in order to grab laughs. TV needs more shows like this one, IMO.

The sitcoms they aired then, Bob Newhart Show, MTM, Taxi, Dick Van Dyke, they were wonderful, and that was the first time I got to watch them all together like that, instead of some random airings late at night on some local channel. They still hold up so well, probably better than ever.

I just realized that the guy in that clip played the nasty queen with the 'fro in Boys in the Band.

I thought I remembered starting a thread on this show. Someone uploaded the finale.

For those of you who don't own all the DVD's or don't know about this yet...

The Mary Tyler Moore Show is coming to the Hallmark Channel, beginning with a marathon that's airing this Sunday.

The show will apparently join their lineup after the marathon, airing in a block from 4AM-6AM seven days a week.

But who the hell is up to watch it at that time?

I have the first three seasons on DVD. Still working on season 3, but I love the show and can't wait to watch more of it.

I'll always remember when it was on during the glory days of Nick at Nite. LOVE these promos! wub.png

Also, she shares my first name. That's an automatic win on my part. smile.png

I'd love to see more of the show Rhoda, too. I haven't seen that show in years.

    • Eva/Thomas really do have good chemistry and I think a lot of it has to do with Ambyr's ability to flirt well.

    • I actually thought it was a dig at Haley too when I heard it lol.
    • I would be fascinated to see the GL episode counts from that time, if they existed. Six years seems like a long time, but Reva was front burner 24/7. I don't see how she could've done episodic tv. The only breaks she really got were her maternity leaves. And it's not like even the late '90's when there were shows shooting in NY (well, mostly L&O). Jordan and Robert have the best brother chemistry.
    • I've been pondering how strange it is that in real life NLG was being more supportive of Haley Pullos than I would have been ....  and now Alexis is doing that for Kristina.
    • Natalia worrying about her dress getting dirty during her DUI arrest had to be a reference to Haley Pullos and the $400 shirt.   The birth scene was really good. It could have been OTT but wasn't. There was this great moment was Michael was talking about how he's seen every sonogram and been with her all the way where it registered with Willow that he's been extremely involved with this and she had no idea but then couldn't say anything because she's obviously cheating too. And then they acknowledged each other and he actually thanked her. It was very humanizing for both characters.
    • This show treats Claire like a glorified extra prop not the granddaughter of the 2 biggest supercouples this show has ever had. I don't think was ever invested in Claire nor writing for her & her connections to majority of the town. What a waste of a legacy character with so much potential
    • Kim Zimmer could have had a nice career as a supporting actress in Hollywood, but that does not appear to be what she wanted. That's fine, but in the eighties, she was not going to have many options as a leading actress. The eighties were brutal for a performer like her.  Her one big film role lasted a minute or two. Even while she was on GL, she should have been doing episodic television. Was her agent that incompetent or was she just bad at auditioning? Her episode of "Designing Women" was quite popular and was discussed at the time for its subject matter, but she never followed up on it. It's bizarre to me.
