"Mass sex ceremony," Ruxton? Which OLTL were YOU watching? ;- P

True.

But I still feel like even without those claims, there would still be a big firestorm over this, and I just don't understand why. The story was groundbreaking, but cuts had to be made. (I wish FF and JPL had been cut over them though. LOL)

I think that unless the actors left on their own, there would probably be some backlash even without those claims too. I think another part of it is, soon, with Kish leaving, and with ATWT which has Nuke, is ending in Sept, there won't be any gays on daytime anymore, except for Rafe on Y&R. I think that gay representation in daytime is important to a lot of people and many enjoy stories that involve gay characters, and that they expected (perhaps unfairly) that OLTL would always be the soap where they'd could see those stories. With the news, they probably feel a little betrayed and see it as a "one step forward, two steps back" scenario in regards to gays in daytime.

Now that might have actually brought some more viewers to OLTL. Nothing like a great big ole orgy in Llanview to reel people in.

It didn't help that half the couple (Oliver) was extremely unlikeable and slept with more women than men. Whiny, mopey, indecisive Fish does not make for compelling television. They should have kept Nick---he at least shook things up.

The story was groundbreaking, but cuts had to be made.

Did the cuts that were made in any way help the show? If this is about making tough choices, then there's tons of dead weight that could have gone. Greg, Gigi, Rex, John, Todd, Tea, Danielle, Langston, Ford, Markko, Marty, Cole, among many others.

Yet none of these people went. If some of them had gone then I think people would be less upset. That and the smear campaign that ABC or whoever has done against gays and against the actors who played Kyle and Fish.

2 thoughts. And I know I'll get the tar and feathered and called names but here I go.

One, sorry but using daytime confidential as a gauge of fan response doesn't work. The Internet hasn't, and I don't think it ever will be, an accurate representation of daytime fans. So to hear that it's the biggest response ever is lame. I'm pretty sure the same got said about Otalia, and whatever. As much as Nuke annoys me, they seem to be the one exception to the rule and have built an international fan base that can actually make an impact. What, where there 10 people at the "Save Kish" rally? Or was it 20? Its easy to rage against the machine on the internet, in the comfort of whatever boxers as you

Second---what if Kish was really part of the problem? And yes, I blame the head cheese for it...but except for a few of the coming out scenes, the story wasn't actually that good. Yes, the story got away from what it should be with the insaneness of OLTL and the 15 million bad gay stories, but I'm sorry, Kish wasn't that much better. There really became no rooting reason for the characters as individuals either to me.

If they're part of the problem, then fine, they deserve to go. Yet I have heard absolutely nothing about other stories that aired around this time and caused a big ratings decline before there ever was a Kish, like Rex/Gigi, or Todd/Tea and their brat, being rewritten, much less the actors being fired. If anything the show seems to be going back to these stories, even though Todd/Tea/Danielle was the big story at the time when ratings sank like a stone.

If you ask me, it's the whole show that is the problem right now.

It needs a cleansing from top to bottom.

Unfortunately the biggest source of ugliness at the show, which is the misogyny, and the need to glorify men who rape and beat and destroy, seems unlikely to ever change. That and the women on the show, the women who are featured anyway, have become so hollow -- they're either headcases (Jessica), or overly propped, plaster goddesses (Tea, Gigi, Kelly).
