Characters who were trashed to prop up a couple

With all the stuff thats recently going on with Schuyler/Gigi/Rex on OLTL, I was thinking about how writers will trash one character as a means to prop up a couple. They will usually have this character act out of character and/or villianize them in order to make the couple look better. What examples of this can you think of?

GH

Couple: Nikolas and Emily

Victims:

Zander - crazy, violent, dead

Mary - crazy, psycho, dead

Stefan - crazy, evil, dead

Honorable Mentions - Summer, Lydia, Trent, Conner. They werent on long enough to get trashed. They just died

Couple: Jason and Liz

Victims:

Sam - She was never an angel, but she wasnt a villian either. Once GH decided to go with Jason/Liz, Sam's personality changed as she became evil, spiteful and malicious. She was portrayed as a witch, terrorizing and antagonizing Liz, the town's saint.

Lucky - drug addicted loser. They really dumbed him down and made him into a chump, while wasting no oppurtunty to portray Jason as the hero.

Couple: Sonny and Carly

Victim:

AJ - Actually he started to get trashed before these two got together but it got even worse when they did. Being hanged by a meat hook. "Throwing" Carly down a flight of steps and killing her. Kidnapping Michael and letting Carly think he were dead. GH did everything to make him like a pitiful person who wasnt fit to be a father and Carly and Sonny had no choice to protect her son from him.

Couple: Jason and Courtney

Victim:

Liz - Back in 2002, GH was leaning towards Liz and Jason getting together and out of nowhere Courtney sweeped into her story and took her place. Of course GH didnt want fans to root for Liason, so they did what they did best and that was trash Liz to make Courtney look like the better option by default. Liz became a jealous shrew who would insult and smack Courtney every chance she got. She was written as the disgrunteled ex bitter bc she didnt get the man

Couple: Jax and Brenda

Victim:

Skye - Skye and Jax were a great couple and after years of going through losers trying to find true love, it seemed as if she finally found it with Jax, at least until Brenda came back and decided she wanted him. They made Skye super insecure and acted like she was some stupid b-tch bc she didnt bow down to the queen Brenda. They had Skye break her sobriety after over 10 years so she could be a sloppy drunk. In the end, Jax and Brenda only lasted a few months so Skye was trsahed for no reason.

AMC

Couple: Zach and Kendall

Victim:

Aidan - For almost a year, all Zach and Kendall did was fight and they spent months on the outs. It took turning Aidan into a complete psycho who kidnapped her, threatened to kill her mother and kept her from her kids to get these two to get over their issues and realizes how much they really loved each other. Too bad Aidan had to get decimated in the process in one of the most extreme out of character exit ever.

Couple: Ryan and Greenlee

Victims:

Kendall - Greenlee was supposed to be her best friend, yet she exposed her in open court, thus risking sending her to death row AND she stole her fiancee. Yet neither of these two could understand why Kendall would be upset? For the first few months after Rylee got together, Kendall was focused on one thing and that was make their lives miserable. She slept with his brother and got highly annoying.

Annie - Her destruction was even worse than Kendall. Annie used to be a pretty good person and mother. Ryan loved and wanted her even with Greenlee back in the picture. However once Rebecca Budig returned, AMC was all about reuniting Rylee. So Annie became crazy, made horrible decisions as a mother, killed a man, tried to kill Greenlee repeatedly, all before going completely insane and shipped off to a mental institution where she was abused by her doctor

Jamal was trashed for Rafe/Alison on Port Charles. That should have never happened. And it all happened in such a sloppy and stupid fashion. Same for Livvie and Caleb throwing Jack under the bus.

Wasn't Bobbie also trashed for Melissa and Roy on GH?

Speaking of PC, I'll add

Couple: Ian and Lucy

Victim: Kevin - They completely ruined Kevin in the end, turning him into an evil creep intent on holding onto Lucy even though she had moved on.

Y&R

Couple: Neil and Carmen

Victim: Druscilla - They turned her into the raging black woman with issues. Going off on them while drunk in public. Catching Carmen in a headlock AT WORK. They really tried to make Dru come across as ugly while these two stood by in judgement of hr

JFP was going to turn Bobbie into a desperate psycho and was going to ship her off or have her killed off in that virus story that was stopped by 9/11. Supposedly it was only Tony Geary that kept them from firing Jackie.

I got another one from GH

Couple: Sonny and Reese

Victim: Alan - A man in his 60s, who happens to be Chief of Staff at the hospital, slapping Sonny's latest bed warmer. Um seriously GH?

Oh I forgot to mention AJ for Jason and Courtney. That one was rather blatent.

    • Yeah, not sure why Jack and Jen didn’t rush to Marlena - or even Carrie - to offer their condolences. A few flashbacks would've been a nice touch too. Instead, we got a whole episode of them talking about Chad and Abby? Come on. On the bright side, I loved Anna’s scenes with Marlena and Carrie - sweet and heartfelt, felt like a real 80s throwback.
    • Martin and Smitty were designed to avoid the stereotype of gay men sleeping around (which to an extent is true). If you recall Martin had a line about them not being open when Chelsea came to talk to him. The producers are walking a very fine line right now and it might not be popular to say but I can understand it. Establishing enough footing to ward off complaints will let them showcase gay characters more openly later.
    • The week was decent. They have started to rotate their stories and finally got a rhythm going. I disagree about them allowing every character to have a moment to shine though. Nicole really hasn't been given anything to do. I completely agree with all this. I adore Doug and hope he makes it through.

    • There was the one appearance in '96, but otherwise, that's correct as far as I know.
    •   It's working fine now.

Question for the B&B group: I see @rsclassicfanforever has uploaded multiple seasons from Videoland  (in the folders that are to be put away). They are huge folders and difficult to download so I started breaking them down into months but I realized they are by season so for example, Season 4 spans from March 1990 to March 1991. Now I'm wondering where to actually place them, since we have the Full Episodes section divided by year, not seasons. And most of these seasons we already have in full, so these are duplicates. Not sure if it's necessary to keep the older versions. I could just make another new section for Seasons, so the main folders would be "Behind the Scenes and Interviews," "Clips," "Full Episodes," "Full Seasons," "Music CDs," and "photo archive Marquise" but I'm not sure that really makes sense. Also wondering since we have almost every full episode now if "Clips" can be deleted in its entirety, as it's nearly 300GB.
    • CBS moving Murder, She Wrote from Sunday to Thursday was straight up sabotage. Les Moonves knew exactly what he was doing.
    • I sure hope you’re right. The lack of sets is maddening!
