Sophie didn't die in a fire. Janet rigged something in the warehouse to kill Sophie, but it failed. Sophie brought a crowbar to kill Janet, but Janet got it away from her and ended up killing Sophie with it instead.

Trevor then showed up and took the blame because he didn't want Janet back in prison.

Really? I was pretty sure Janet didn't really kill Sophie--who did Arlene catch then? LOL Anyway it was a lame story--I remember being surprised and shocked at how suddenly Kiberd left. But I thought Kiberd took the fall thinkign she'd dne it but she hadn't

(and yep that clip still shows him as tougher like he used to be--never seen the first actor. That clip is from DePriest's era I'm pretty sure...)

I know it's not the first Trevor (I've never seen him) but I think it's early Kiberd, so I think his earlier work was much rougher edged before the silly tie, Uncle Porkchop era. I wonder how viewers felt about that transition at the time.

Right -- I remembered the warehouse but I thought a fire was involved.

Janet didn't actually kill Sophie though. Some man did, and Janet and Trevor thought she did. Arlene cleared Trevor's name after he fled Pine Valley.

Well, with her first attempt (the candy cane) she didn't.

I remember those scenes.

It was around Christmas, and Janet went to the mall. Sophie was dressed as an elf (working with the Santa at the mall) ), and she confronted Janet behind the mall in an alleyway. Janet took a big candy cane from Sophie and bashed her with it (aren't those things usually made out of styrofoam or plastic? LOL)... anyway... Sophie ate pavement and JFAP thought she was dead so she threw her body in a dumpster. Janet hurries back home -- and the final scene of the episode is Sophie's hand rising really fast out from the dumpster!

I don't remember the second that much, but I do remember the candy cane, as I thought that was one of the dumbest pieces of crap I had ever seen on TV, and I still do.

You're right! I was just checking Soapcentral. I thought Arlene wore the wire because the guy was the real killer. Apparently not:

I went on Youtube to try to find some other Marisa episodes and then I got a million Mabe videos. She ruins everything.

Thanks. I didn't see early Robin (just the plastic surgery episode). For some reason I thought that was mostly Kate with the mirror.

Janet was in prison for a while between actresses, remember (and we had new, and awfully bland, Natalie--Melody Anderson or whoever) so it wasn't a quick transition--wasn't Robin's first ep the Twilight Zone hommage plastic surgery episode (Chris Goutman directed it like his fave ep of Twlight)? I don't remember Janet really talking to the mirror before RM played her--I guess maybe she did (I can remember a hand mirror when she was in hospital with Amanda during the Will storyline) but itwasn't as played up, anyway.

I made a habit of saving my Xmas AMC eps and recently saw some of the candy cane stuff--very festive :P (You can see some more of the storyline in the 30th anniversary ep a week or so later, on Agnesnixon.com)

But wait, so Janet actually DID kill Sophie? And that's why she took off? I have to admit, as much as I wasn't into McTavish bringing her back and the whole "she killed Trevor" thing, etc, I forgot a lot of how she had left, I guess to McTavish's (very partial) credit she was playing with hints we were getting when she left.

    • Unpopular opinion:  The focus on the soap opera tropes over the mysteries and crimes was partly what did the show in.  Also, featuring characters not involved in the legal, police, and criminal elements also hurt the show and took away what made it unique. Featuring characters like Jody, Raven, Sky, etc hurt the show long term.  The show ABCified starting in 1976/1977 and then went through a youthification period starting in 1981.
    • I feel like the lawsuit storyline was resolved quickly because the show didn’t want to spring for more sets.
    • It's been a while, but we have seen the foyer to Bill and Hayley's house as well as the exterior entrance to their house. The foyer was first seen in the premiere episode when Hayley met Vanessa at the house.
    • There's still a year or two before Larkin arrives. Joel is there already. EON does noticeably youthify, although I think they carry it off. Admittedly I haven't seen most of the Jody stories, which from what people here have said aren't great.
    • I don't mind the actor who plays Brian. He's fine. The problem for me is that Paige seems so wishy wishy. She doesn't seem to have much of a personality at this point so I don't see why Brian would be so besotted with her. She just lurches from one trauma to the next. Granted, it's only been a month, but she's not as vibrant as April or even Deborah who has had minimal screen time by this point.  I do worry about the influence of GH on the show since I'm in fall of 1979 and characters have conversations and there's not the drive to "youthify" the show. However, I think Marceau (sp?) is gone. He was given a rather tame sendoff. How long was the actor on the show? I hope this is not a sign of things to come. I worry the show is setting up a murder mystery around one of my favorite characters and I will be mightily annoyed. I also noticed in recent Search for Tomorrow episodes uploaded to YT that the actors playing Logan and Eliot showed up. I don't watch the show but they were in the screencaps. When does Larkin Malloy show up or has he already left? Joel Crothers hasn't shown up either unless I've blinked and missed him.
    • Dr Linden. She treated Vanessa's drug addiction (although Vanessa seemed to forget that by Henry's suicide attempt) , and she's mentioned during Reva's PPD. Although I can't recall if she's actually shown right off the top of my head. She probably was temporarily shelved when Sonni was a therapist (between her crazy times) And I think Billy sees her after he falls off the wagon after Reva's death.
    • Kinda agree. I have some issues with the sets. Nicole's living room is bland-looks like a display home. Bill and Hayley's is too small and basically hideous. And neither of them have a front door/entrance or staircase. People just appear from the corridor. Those green accents  at Uptown are way too much. Also,Naomi and Vanessa not having an office or a home .
    • Thanks @Paul Raven  That Grainger story always reads like hog-wild melodrama, not very similar to the more subtle stories for Rita in her last few years. I wonder how Lenore played the material.
