Soap Openings: Past and Present

God, I just hate whatever I've seen of Kassie DePaiva as Chelsea Reardon, and I've never been able to stand her cold acting style on OLTL.

Thankfully, when I started watching GL, she was on her way out, and Bridget was on her way in. She looks cross-eyed in that GL opening from 1990.

I can't believe they teased with the idea of putting Chelsea with Fletcher.

I liked Kassie on GL, but I mostly just remember her singing and sharing longing glances with Fletcher at the Blue Moon. (I miss Fletcher!) She's also one of the main reasons I hang on with OLTL.

This is the new RH opening in early 1983. Sort of a "look, the real Pat and Delia are back!" and a lot of good cast shots. My favorite shots are of Jack and Delia, then the Coleridges in their fancy duds. It starts at 2:10

If you ever need a visual aide when trying to define "camp":

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="

name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="
type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Why she got her purse!? And spinnin'!? Of course it could have been a wrap after Danny, oh my Lord... and Cricket looks like she's working the end of the runway at a church fashion show ("Git it goral, you betta wear dat!")

I can never remember who that is in the aquamarine dress or with the purse.

Speaking of openings, I still cannot believe Another World kept that dated and fugly paintbox opening until 1996! How the hell did that thing survive that long into the 90's?!?! That show was really neglected, despite the constant behind the scenes turnovers.

I thought that opening had a certain unique style and was always fun to watch, even if some of it was rarely updated (poor Matthew had the same picture for years and years). I much preferred it to the generic, pretentious wannabe primetime opening, which, due to endless cast departures, seemed to be about five seconds long by the last year.

I liked all of the "My Guiding Light" openings, though my least favorite was what they call the "popcorn" version of the theme (upbeat synth guitar with the harp strums, first few notes sound like farts to me).

I liked this one, I think the last before HOTL. Though this isn't my favorite picture montage, there's one where Beverlee is smiling and turns around.

The Boyz II Men opening! I call it that because it sounds like something they'd sing over. Jesus Christ, GL was such a different show then.

I have to offer AMC's white opening, which I will defend forever. That song, the black/white images, the leaf, the rose, the bottle, the horses, the inkwell, the keys...I flove it. And ABC went and P&Ged it up for a while with the sponsor tag.

The ER wannabe opening was kind of cold for a soap opening, but the paintbox opening felt like a bad 80's cartoon or video game. I mean, even by 1990, that thing was SOOOOOO 80's.

The fact that AW took a leap from the loud purple paintbox opening straight to the serious ER look is hilarious all by itself! :lol: Imagine what the viewers at home must have thought when the opening debuted.

Ever seen the original version which included Eileen Davidson and without Britney and her purse?

No mention of my favorite ATWT opening yet? I think it was always the music that got me.

BTW why is the music so different in this 1988 Y&R opening? Did they really do two re-mixes of the theme music? I don't remember but I do like, although it sound too late-80ish:

Has anyone ever found the original DAYS opening on YT? Macdonald Carey wasn't doing the voiceover in that one.
