The thing is, if they tried to redeem him, they'd probably do it in 5 minutes, given how awful this writing team is with execution and pacing.

So, if they tried, it probably still wouldn't ring true.

The best thing, IMO, is to send Adam off to state prison. They can recast and bring him back in a few years, with him trying to prove to everyone that he's changed.

That's what I'm talking about by redemption. I don't really see how it can be done without some kind of long break. 3/4ths of GC should want to kill him once all is revealed.

I doubt that's really even one of the top 10 reasons this genre is going under. Soaps are nothing without the traditional soap stories. The execution is the real issue. the shows that tried to reinvent the wheel are the ones that have sunk the fastest.

So there! It's number five!

Seriously. Watching them, or anyone else, redeem Adam would be painful. A waste, a boring interlude story that will probably end up p!ssing many off because they redeemed him after the crimes he comitted. The kind of stories that make people turn off the TV and never turn it on again because - everything is reversible. To suit the HWs needs.

Who knows even if it will please those who wanted it? At best, it will end with mixed results. And then, after fives years of this character hogging the TV screen, people will say: This was a waste. No sh!t. And now you realise that?!

I'd rather skip that part and write genuine soap stories for people who deserved them. Epic, big ones with great payoffs. But it won't happen because now it doesn't matter.

And OK, Julia, I get it. I do. You like Adam. OK. We don't need another post saying so. :)

Everyone, from primetime to film, use the same stories over and over. As you said, it's about the execution. Those at Y&R cannot bother to hide their contempt for the soap format or for soap fans, or for soap actors, yet they are too incompetent to actually be able to reinvent the wheel. Soaps can reinvent themselves for changing times. They did in the 70s. Bill Bell himself reinvented Y&R in the early 80s. The problem is the people on soaps now are just incompetent and untalented and the networks don't care anymore about saving the shows.

Oh, what could have been! You could have been the Prince of England! Bill Bell could have live 257 years! Maria Arena could have still worked in fashion! The past 14 years on Y&R could never have happened in the first place! Oh, what could have been! :P:lol:

They can make it ambiguous, but then again - the character would resurface and we'll go all over again...

I don't like it.

But OK, whatever, others can. ;)

I think you know where you can stick this comment, if you don't work real hard and you'll figure it out. :) If I like something, I'll say it as often as I like, just like you drown us in posts about what you don't like. If that's a problem for you, feel free to put me on ignore. I won't miss you, promise.

Bingo. If I loved Adam in his present state I probably wouldn't be agreeing that he needs a long stint in prison, after which this show will likely not be on the air.

Re Adam:

It just makes me very, very sad to see such a significant and important character be so terribly wasted.

Adam should have driven/created years worth of exciting storyline and dynamics... And been part of yet another Newman generation.... It's sickening how badly this was butchered.
