I returned to watch Melody Thomas's winter comeback, and have stayed. i find myself watching live full YR episodes again (and i do not have a nielsen box in my house), i would not say it is excellent but very enjoyable right now. There are a few things that i am enjoying: JoJo is a lot of fun, we need some trailer trash fun in Genoa City, i have been laughing out loud with this new character which is supposed to be Kay's real long lost daughter. Lauren is getting a big mystery storyline soon, we are getting small clues each week. Jack's new love is also refreshing in a twisted way. Adam and Sharon: Adam wrote in a paper that her baby was alive...the dramatic scene is one of the best i have seen in a long long time on YR, it was a WOW moment, i do not think most viewers expected to see that, and that is what good soap drama is all about

ATWT jumped the shark this week with the boring Little Miss Sunshine spin off. i turned my tv off, what a bunch of cr#p. i want to see carly and jack together but this is so ridiculous! reminds me of Guiding Light's last days, horrible!!

It's not horrible. If your talking about the outdoor scenes ATWT is not the only one doing them. ATWT is alot better now. It's better than Y&R. DAYS is even better than Y&R.

I really like Adam and Sharon! LOL. I have to say that I enjoyed Victoria and Billy bantering. I'm starting to like Jack with Emily, too. I loved Friday's episode with the fireworks at EC with Sharon and Jack. JoJo is funny, lol.

Days is good fun to watch also and deserves the ratings.

It really is good and I'm so glad that they are seeing results for all their hard work. I am hooked on it and I just started watching it this week! I had to have something to watch to take the place of GH.

It was ONE episode, and it wasn't about the competition, per se, it was about Sage scheming to reunite them. Had you watched the eppy, you would have seen them getting closer, Carly lying to Craig she intended to seduce Jack, and Craig telling Jack he was an idiot for not appreciating Carly.

Thanks for confirming Nelson's ratings, Toups! smile.gif

Y&R and other soaps are going to fall massively next week, but especially Y&R. No way will they keep those holiday increases, I would be very surprised if the drop off isn't huge...

I'm especially surprised Y&R went up so much, given that not much "must see" stuff happened last week, I guess one could claim the crummy plane crash, but that wasn't any huge event (nor was it promoted in promos) and was over with by the next episode.

Well the weather was bad last week too. So people might have been stuck at home watching soaps. I know several schools were closed to bad weather..etc..etc....Soaps more than likely will go down but by how much considering the weather.

Sad but true. People can hate on Pratt, Carlivati and Guza individually but there's a "vibe" that pervades the whole ABC line up that's driven people away.

Its their pimping (the pet dujour) method of storytelling.

Nelson's ratings are correct.

Yes every soap went up big, getting 300,000-500,000 Total Viewers, but the most staggering number was Y&R gaining 657,000 in one week! With Y&R losing big a couple weeks ago, I didn't think it would beat last year's NYE week, but it did by 195,000. Another wow factor is Y&R hitting 2.0 in W18-49! Seriously, a 2.0? (when as the last time that happened? don't have my archives with me right now) And almost 1.3 million in W18-49 viewers. Wow.

Other than that, nothing really stands out. As expected, it was a great week for soaps, especially Y&R.

Total: 5,580,000 (+657,000)

HH: 3.9 (+.4)

W18-49: 2.0 (+.4)

Mon and Wed: 4.0

ohmy.gif You just don't see big gains like that any more, even for NYE week.

Full ratings will be posted probably Saturday night.

But only total viewers were where the biggest gains were. Didnt you say Toups that Total Viewers didnt matter....lol. The only impressive numbers seem to be Y&R. The 2.0 in 18-49 and the 4.0 ratings for mon and wed. B&B went up .2 but the rest of the soaps only had a misely .1 increase...lol. Oh and OLTL also had a .2 increase but considering it hit all time lows it's not that big of a deal. I got to say Ron knew when to put the Kish romp when most people would watch....lol.

I was looking at some prime time ratings. I had no idea that the Bigger Loser is one of NBC's highest rated shows. Ali Sweeney's popularity as its host may explain Days' ratings upward trend more than its story quality.

I just don't understand this if you are a 7th ranked show that has aced 18-34 demo eg 2 then that's

good? I just can't understand this being such a good thing...I understand that for the business of advertising buying ad space and all that but #6 and #7 means not many people are watching your show...I thought advertising is to reach as many people as possible.

I don't have these data for all soaps, but I kind of wanted to test Angela's "seasonal fluctuation" idea.

I don't think or know that it's something that's going on with all soaps (although Jan.-Feb. does tend to be a lot of the soaps highest rated months every year from a quick glance), but when I put out seasonal flunctuation I was being very specific to AMC in 2008 and 2009. "AMC" is showing a two-year trend of similar seasonal flunctuation (fall/winter or Oct.-Mar. higher, spring/summer or Apr.-Sept. lower). Two years in a row could be a coincidence. I think it can be really called a pattern if 2010 follows the same trend. 2007 trended downwards from Jan. to Nov. for AMC so it didn't follow this new pattern that's showing up. 2,550,000 was about AMC's average for Jan.-Dec. 2008 and 2009 so that's the threadline.

Those are huge viewer jumps for all the soaps (but small HH jumps for all of 'em except Y&R), it doesn't feel like that's happened a lot in the past several years. The end of year holiday jumps had really decreased I believe. I'd have to look, but I'm feeling a bit lazy.

Thanks Toups :)

Glad all the soaps went up.

AMC is really high now, and DAYS is getting closer and closer to number 2!

Glad GH somewhat recovered from the heinous numbers last week. Same with OLTL.

These are the type of ratings soaps needs but sadly these are just a one week jump.

WOW. AMC almost topping 3 million viewers. When was the last time they have been able to do that?? 2007 I believe.

ATWT last in demos. Not good.

AMAZING week for Y&R.

As Toups pointed out Viewers mean squat. And AMC is tied with ATWT in the demos..so not good for AMC either.
